If you don't plant a Cascade you're crazy

My first attempt at growing my own hops this year was with 2 planters of Cascade rhizomes. =] I hope to see the kind of growth you're reporting!

    Too much yeast

If you didn't refridgerate the bottle before opening, that could be one reason for the yeast not flocculating.

    Blood Orange Hefeweizen

It's brewed and in the fermenter! Had to use sweet oranges as I couldn't find any blood oranges but they were incredibly ripe and sweet. I'll post when its being consumed and let you know how it is.

Finished beer not the color or clarity you expected bother you?

My try at an original Irish Red recipe turned out burnt orange... If the style didn't have RED in the name, it might not have bothered me so much. oh well, I'll nail it next time.

use a mixer to dissolve DME?

I've never had any issues getting DME to dissolve into a rolling boil. I typically go half and half with mine though, at 60 and 15.

    quick question on fermentation chamber

I saw a pretty ingenius build in the DIY section where someone combined the idea of the polystyrene chiller and a mini fridge. Basically built onto the mini fridge with the insulation making a chamber large enough for several fermenters. since you already have the minifridge, this might be fun...

    Star San Mistake....oops

Another "pro tip" for star-san is dont put your plastics into the water before mixing the sanitizer, I did this once and a couple of my plastics are "scarred for life" turning a black ladel I had white in places that even after several washes won't come out. *facepalm* That stuffs potent when...

Nitrile glove + Star San = Sulfur?

I always wear nitrile gloves when dealing with a brew post-boil, but haven't experienced this. Odd. I'll have to look at the box and see if they are coated with anything.

    Wine Chiller for fermentation

Decided to go build a temp fermenter using the plans in the DIY section. Just gonna get some styrofoam insulation and build a small ice box for now. heh.

    Wine Chiller for fermentation

Well, the wine chillers are made to run in that 50-70 degree window and many have a digital temperature setting available, so rather than buying a deep freeze or minifridge and having to buy a temperature controller, I thought this might be easier and more cost effective.

    Wine Chiller for fermentation

So I've been looking into purchasing a wine cooler/chiller for fermentation of my ales. So far I'm not having a lot of luck finding brands/models that are of appropriate interior size to accomodate a 6.5 bucket or 5 carboy. Any suggestions on brands/models I should search for? Or can anyone...

It really is hard to screw up beer--testimonial

+1... If I had any idea my first batch how HARD it really is to mess up a batch of beer, I probably would have never found this site to begin with. So at least some good came of it, right? haha.
