    Length of Blowoff hose?

    I use about a 3 food 1 inch blow off tube unto a 3 gallon bucket filled about 1/2 way........ 6 inches or so. Also add liquid soap to the blowoff water, this way nothing grows in there....... also keeps the water from smelling :cool:

    hops question

    I too always remove them, using a strainer into the primary...... the next batch I am making is a Stout and I also am moving to leave hops....... should be alot less work with the straing.

    Looking for a recipe for the wife....

    My Wife loves this one........ its a Vanilla Weizen :D not hoppy and has a nice undertone of vanilla. 1 Package of Wheat, Dry Malt Extract with Bittering hops (Hallertauer) already mixed into the dry malt 1 Package containing Crystal Malt {Specialty Grain), along with a cheesecloth...

    Very low starting gravity

    hmmm 2 1/2 pounds does sound lite........ I would think that would prob only yeild around 3% abv. as for the carboy its better to use the 5 gallon for the secondary but it probably won't bother anything...... open a beer and relax :D

    Where's the kick?

    I have mail ordered for years and never had a problem with my yeasts........ except once it was liquid yeast that was in my fridge for like 14 months....... Also with the powder yeast I just pitch it directly in dry and top off with water and always get bubbling within 12-18 hours..... :cool:

    Irish moss - routine?

    I use it but I am not sure it really does much, I just add some 45 min into the boil....... also the place I get my beerk kits from include the moss. I figured it can't hurt.

    Water won't boil HELP!

    hammer the bottom down.... well more realistic.... get a peice of sheet metal and cut it round to fit under the high spot on the pot....... Also with electric stoves, if it starts to boil lower is and blow on the electic coils, that seems to work good for me..... electric is good for boiling...

    How old is everyone???

    30.5 years here and brewing by myself since 96 and my friend that got me into it since 93. I now use a party pig and 22oz bottles.......alot less work :D

    Clear Bottle non twist

    I use mostly Guiness bottles...... the brown are supposed to be the best on keeping UV outa the brew, also the Becks bottles are good to, Hein's work but I like the taller Becks. go to your local distributer and buy back some of the deposits from them, thats what I do to get more bottles.

    Porter, Stout

    I think the Porter is not as creamy as a stout is, although they do taste pretty much the same I also think the Porter is a bit lighter and the Stouts heavier......

    hefeweizen or Weissbier

    My buddy went to Germany and they had both at some of the bars he was in......... I like them both and also buy Heffeweizen here, also St Paulies was very good to........ I just bottles a Weise 2 weeks ago! should be good :cool:

    Spent Grain

    I have heard it is supposed to be good for your soil in the garden, although I have not tried this but the deomposition of it will fertilize the garden......

    Secondary Techinique

    This weekend I am making a Barleywine beer that requires a 2nd stage Champaingn yeast to be added to the brew, but that beer has 12 pounds of malt in it......... not the usually 5-8lbs....... :D but if there is sugar left after the primary then the new yeast will eat the remaining sugar...

    What is cider?

    Wow....... this looks pretty easy....... more new fermentation to play with this year! :) I think I am giong to try this very soon to have for the summer or late year camping trips! Ohh so could I just buy like a 1 gallon bottle in jug and add the yeast and put a trap on the top?
