    Beer school?

I don't know if it is exactly what you had in mind, but the Siebel Institute in Chicago offers their Concise Course online. I haven't actually taken anything with them myself, but they seem to be well regarded. I'm planning on enrolling in some courses at their Chicago campus in the fall.

    New Belgium Brewery!!!

I don't have anything against it really, but I'm not a huge Fat Tire fan. I think one of the things that pisses me off the most is since it has been popping up in the Chicago area, it has gone for ridiculous prices in bars. I think I saw a bar in Naperville about a year ago had it for something...

    Sweet Craigslist score...

So I just got back from picking this stuff up. I thought I would brag :ban: What I got: -6 Ball lock kegs. Need to be reconditioned, but otherwise good condition -4 sets of disconnects (gas and liquid) -Various lengths of hosing (pretty new stuff, I think the guy only tested them out)...

Advice on a dented Better Bottle

Thanks for the advice. I had already sent them an email. I got a response saying that it should be fine even if there is a crease as long as it isn't scratched. That's sort of what I figured, but it was my first better bottle and I thought I should ask. If it is just a small cosmetic thing, it's...

Advice on a dented Better Bottle

I just ordered a better bottle from AHS. Through shipping, the box got crushed a bit somehow and it is dented in a few spots. It's not horrible or anything, and will hold liquid fine, I'm just concerned with the warping in a few spots. Again, it's relatively minor, but I don't know if these...

Danby Kegerator - Add a secondary Regulator

Something like this may work: http://www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/regulator/component/618BL.shtml but I think it depends on your regulator, and the threads on the regulators you have. edit: Actually that says its for right hand threads, so you might want something like this...

    New Spigot in Primary Fermenter

A tip to avoid it in the future would be to not use the bottling bucket, but if you must, I would try to secure it tighter next time. Get something that lets you get a good grip on both ends, and twist that sucker on hard. A word of warning when doing this (I have done it), is to only twist a...

Two Simple Questions - Scales and Grain Storage

I just bought this scale on ebay for $14 shipped: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110257281105&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=001 It weighs up to 1000g (2.2xxx lbs) at .1 gram accuracy (0.0035xx oz). I figured it was pretty cheap way to measure hops, and could also work if I...

Word of warning : Don't Leave Full CO2 Tanks in Hot Car!

It's probably reasonably safe if it is secured and don't have a trunk, but if you have a trunk you should probably put it in there just as an extra safety precaution.

Need some advice on a turkey fryer brewpot and MLT

I believe it's 3/8", but not positive. I know the spigot on the outside is threaded and 3/8" screws on to it, but that doesn't necessarily mean the hole on the inside is.

Need some advice on a turkey fryer brewpot and MLT

I'm switching to All Grain, as well as full boils. I picked up this 35-qt Aluminum Saf-T fryer to use as a brewpot. I think the whole thing was $70 on sale at Bass Pro Shop. I was going to go the way of a cooler MLT. I have a 17 gallon cooler that I haven't used yet, and was going to...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

I have a question, that I am sure has been answered a million times, but I haven't really been able to find the answer, and I'm just all mixed up in the head, so sorry in advance: What factors should go into cooler selection? Can you get "too big" of a cooler? I have an unused 17 gallon...

    Need Replacement Regulator Gauges (Cheap)

Thanks for all the responses. Fingers, I paid $26 and change plus $10 shipping for the regulator. It is a taprite Series 740, and seems to be a pretty heavy duty one. I could tell the gauges were in good shape from the picture, so seemed like a solid deal.

    Need Replacement Regulator Gauges (Cheap)

So basically our communication went like this: I told him what he did wrong, and told him I would either like a refund (including shipping both ways), or would like for him to pay for replacement gauges which I said I had found for about $10 each + shipping. He had emailed me back telling me...

    Need Replacement Regulator Gauges (Cheap)

So I just ordered a used regulator on ebay. The guy put up a picture and it looked to be in real good condition. He said it was in great condition. It was in great condition before it was shipped. To start, it was supposed to be shipped priority, but was shipped parcel post. The packaging...

    Over Thinking Brewing?!

I'll join in the crowd saying "go ahead and brew already". Making beer takes a little bit of knowledge. Making good beer takes a fair amount of knowledge Making very good beer takes a good amount of experience and a good amount of knowledge. And so forth.... As much as you try, you can only...

    Question about spigot usage

Thanks for the responses. I think morebeer is the one place I didn't look. It's not the same spigot that they sell, but I'm sure that its the right size.

    Question about spigot usage

I actually have two questions: 1) I have a spigot for my bottling bucket/fermenter that has 2 rubber gaskets on it. Am I supposed to put one gasket on the outside and one on the inside, or both of them on one side? Right now I have been doing one on each side. Which leads me to my second...

    Brewing a Hefeweizen

I just bottled a hefe that was a little warmer, probably in the 75-78 range. It is a little bit banana-y/fruity for my tastes (but not bad). It might mellow out in a week or two though. I think at around 70-71, you should be pretty good, esp. if you are making it for the wife. I'm a novice...

    I'm a lucky guy

When I got into brewing I ordered all my equipment online. I had placed an order for about $150 worth of stuff. Little did the company know, they accidentally sent me an extra plastic airlock!!! SUCKERS!!!!!
