Yep another dud ending to an otherwise good season.

am i asking to much for my keggles?

If you break it down, it's easier to justify the price if it's fair. Some guesses - feel free to correct me on these #s... $40+ x 3 for shells -- $120 $25? x 7 for couplers -- $175 hinged, full FB -- $90 $?? x 5 swagelok fittings polish job = LOTS of time + $25-$50 in materials So basically...

    Just moved to Hawaii

Cool. Sounds like there's quite a few island brewers then. No active brew club? I'll be "downgrading" the brewery while I'm there. I decided to leave my single-tier stand (along with my grain mill and all fancy equiptment) here w/ a brew buddy while we're in HI. I figured I'd just brew w/...

I'll come over to Kauai and brew with you sometime if you promise to show me around the island. :D

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

Right. That's kind of what I would expect, and why I've always stuck to the "wrong" recipe that uses less chocolate. 1.25 lbs is A LOT!

It kind of looks like Pgh would be pronounce "poo". I guess that would be appropriate. :D

    Plate chiller

I chill my wort in a single-pass through the chiller, so anything to filter the trub would have to be after the plate chiller, not before it, since the cold break forms as the wort is chilled. If you use it in a recirculating system, maybe the cold break as it passes through again could be a...

    Plate chiller

I do the oven thing, although sometimes I just cook at 350 for an hour instead of the self-clean cycle. Makes me feel better knowing I turn to ash anything that didn't get backflushed.

    ELF best christmas movie.....ever?

Christmas Vacation is awesome! I like watching Christmas Story every few years, but it gets tiresome. I also thought The Santa Clause was brilliant. Elf is good, but also tiresome in that annoying Will Ferrell kind of way.

    Just moved to Hawaii

I'll be on Oahu in Jan. It's nice to know there's a good HBS close. We'll have to get together a brew sometime once I get settled in. How do you say cheers in Hawaiian? :mug:

    braided hoses

Yeah, it'll be fine, but it'll wear out pretty quickly. When it does, definitely spring for the silicon. It's really nice!

Aloha! I'm moving to Hawaii in Jan. - can't wait!

    Mash tun question

To the OP, I wouldn't bother with a mesh bag over the braid. If it's bad enough that large particles never stop getting through, replace it. If not, don't worry about it. Do like Flyguy said and vorlauf longer/slower.

    Mash tun question

Sudbuster, you're obviously trying to help the OP - I get that, but you're coming across really cocky and condescending in the process. LOTS of people here have great success brewing with a braid. Expect a lot of backlash when you give a blanket statement about wasting your time with a braid...

Effect of temp drift during the mash

They'll be different. Now to what extent is a different question. The higher temps will certainly start to denature the beta enzymes that could/would work in the lower ranges. I think the difference would be more dramatic between a mash steady at 150 and one that drifts from 157 down to 150...

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

Yeah, I like it, too. But in all honesty it wasn't my idea. Someone else on here came up with it, and somehow I got the credit.
