    False Bottom Help

Sabco's is 3/32" on 5/32" centers. It may not be ideal, but I bet it'll work fine. You may have to vorlauf slightly longer, but once the grain bed sets, it should lauter just fine.

How fast did you switch to AG?

1st batch was AG. Never bothered brewing an extract batch.

    Work Scavenged brew stand

Free is always good. I also built my stand from some scrap steel I got for free.

just got my PCS orders to hawaii

I pcs'd here in Jan. It's awesome - you're going to love it. I left the brew stand w/ a friend back in TX and haven't got my stuff set up yet, but it won't be long. I'm at Hickam AFB. Where will you be stationed?

    Hop strainer?

Jim, it's not actually my thread... or my idea originally. I was just an early user/advocate. Here's the thread ScubaSteve started. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/lil-sparky-tha-man-40738/

    brew software for win 7

I've got beersmith loaded on 7. No problems that I can tell.

2 tier or single tier stand

I understand $100 is $100 and that means different things to different people, but a $100 pump for your stand that is versitile for whatever you need (like the march) isn't all that much compared to what you're going to spend on the rig as a whole. I say don't skimp, and spend the extra $$ and...

    Lil' Sparky is tha Man!

I don't use any other kind of filter, just an open dip tube in the center of my keggle. No problems with clogging, even with a plate chiller.

Really, the benefit is a constantly open bag that you don't have to dig out and untie to add more hops. Keeping it open kind of necessitates it being suspended. ;)

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

Actually, I just rebuilt my computer and haven't reloaded Beersmith yet, so I'm not sure. I think it was probably 90 mins. I would recommend, with any recipe you find, that you do your own water calculations based on your own system losses, the time you plan to boil, etc. I often find that my...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

AHS's description: Brown malt imparts a dark-roasted and a slight nutty flavor to beer. It is primarily used in English beers: porters, stouts, milds, and brown ales. 60-90 L http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?products_id=10734

Right. I think it's pretty common for extract brewers.

    Single-tier propane/electric HERMS/RIMS rig?!!!??!

Actually, you never said you wouldn't find one unnecessary. You just said you decided to build a stand with both. And it's not only possible - it's highly probable. Well, I tried, too. I don't think I'll bother returning to monitor your "department of redundancy department" rig build, so no...

    Single-tier propane/electric HERMS/RIMS rig?!!!??!

OK. Well, I get the propane/electric thing, but I gotta tell ya, I still don't get the HERMS+RIMS thing. If you build it with both, I think you'll find that one of them is completely unnecessary, since they both do the exact same thing. I would suggest picking one and going with it first and...

    Single-tier propane/electric HERMS/RIMS rig?!!!??!

Yeah, ok... So if you don't mind, once again for us slow ones in the group... reconcile these two statements: "I'll be able to choose one of these when I brew: propane with HERMS, propane with RIMS, electric with HERMS, or electric with RIMS." "My rig will not contain any redundancies. My...

    Polar Ware False Bottom

Cat, it's just the style that ajf is shooting for. Maybe it's not one that you're interested in brewing, but he is. My experience has also been that the temperature of the mash seems to have much more influence on the final character of the beer than does water/grain ratio, but I can see how...

    gas plumbing test run

Could be the 0-60 reg. Maybe it's not able to give you the fine control at low pressure levels. A 0-20 or 0-30 probably would've been fine.

    Therminator versus Counterflow chillers

No argument here. I recir boiling wort through my chiller to sanitize, too.
