    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

Thanks Yooper. What are your thoughts on using midnight wheat? Looks like one other person mentioned using it in this thread but never updated. Here's the description on it. "Producing no bitter, astringent or dry flavors, Midnight Wheat starts slightly sweet with hints of roasted flavor...

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

Ok I'm just about set to brew this Saturday. Read most of the thread and think I'm pretty much good to go. I know there's been tons of discussion on subbing the black barley but I still can't decide what to do. Here are my substitution options... Briess black patent malt (500) Paul's UK...

Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

I just added 4oz of roasted cacao nibs and 2 vanilla beans to primary. I wish I would have racked to secondary first because it looks like everything sunk...kind of was expecting them to float. Guess there's not much I can do now...hopefully still get some flavor out of the cacao/vanilla...

Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

I've been getting around 70% lately but for this beer I didn't have the homebrew shop double mill the grains like I usually do and also this was my first all grain recipe with a large grain bill so efficiency probably dropped a good bit because of that too. I'm surprised the 1 ounce of...

Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

Quick update on how my brew day went. Undershot the OG by a lot....ended up at 1.072. Everything else went perfect from maintaining mash temps to the boil and additions...just really disappointed on how poor my efficiency was. I should have been prepared and added some sugar to boost the OG but...

Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

Ok gotcha...appreciate the advice. So just to be clear you aren't recommending any chocolate additions (chocolate/nibs/cacao powder) during the boil, but to get the chocolate flavor from the cacao nib/vanilla primary addition? With the option of adding cacao powder @5 min if you want more of a...

Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

Are you saying to nix the 4oz cacao powder @ 5min and instead use the cacao nibs/vanilla at 5min?

Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

Ok...I'm preparing to brew this one Saturday and have a few questions I was hoping you guys could help me out on. I've read the thread back to page 80 and after reading some comments this is my brew plan...let me know thoughts/opinions. I'm going to stick to the exact grain bill. I'm looking...

American Pale Ale Lake Walk Pale Ale

I am all set to brew this tomorrow. As some of you mentioned earlier, when I entered this recipe into Beersmith it said the IBU's will be over 60...which push it into the IPA range. Are you guys noticing this beer come out more bitter than it should? Should I consider cutting back on the...

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Perfect...thanks for the quick response. Also I figured out my other question...obviously I don't need to sanitize the lime zest since it is going into the boil :smack: Looking forward to brewing this saturday

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Hey guys...I've read almost half this thread and still have a couple questions. I think I confused myself by reading it backwards and maybe the recipe has changed over time. Is everyone mashing at 158 degrees or 148? The recipe on the first page says to mash at 158 for 45min but earlier in the...

best way to mix priming sugar with beer?

How do you measure the exact volume of the beer minus the trub for the priming calculation? Obviously you need to prepare the sugar mixture before racking to the bottling bucket...just wondering how you are getting this calculation?

    Beginner Brewer- Critique my Setup

Thanks for the tips everyone. I will try and shop around online to find a cheaper threaded thermometer and ball valve. I do know of a local restaurant that sells plastic buckets with lids for cheap so I can grab one or two of those. Can someone explain the advantage of the ball valve on the...
