    Need a carboy hoist

Here’s hoping you have a speedy, safe recovery.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

You can almost do that in Phx. I’m here for family stuff and I must have passed at least twenty waymo cars near the airport. Last time I was here I saw a few but not this many.

how about a meme generator thread...

Not a meme, just a pic I took the other day. Blueberry flavored almonds. As a society, we are all doomed.

    First time making cider

Yes but they are probably referring to kegging. If you drink it in a reasonable amount of time, it’ll be ok. My kegerator sits at about 34f. If you plan to bottle and backsweeten, then yes pasteurize.

    Need a carboy hoist

DON’T PASS ON GLASS! There’s a mix of 3 and 5 gallon carboys in my basement bathroom. When it’s time for bottling I’m comfortable hauling up the 3 g’s along with the crate. The 5g ciders will be transferred into a keg before I take it upstairs.

What did I cook this weekend.....

I think Costco introduced their own bags. If Costco is an option for you.

What did I cook this weekend.....

Yeah they are expensive. In my situation I’m gonna try to justify this way; The cost of a LEM is sub $500 now -eventually my foodsaver will go out..that’s $120ish -the bags for chamber sealers are significantly less. -I’ll be able to seal more foods, including sauces, soups and marinades. In my...

What did I cook this weekend.....

I use a food saver but it’s a pretty basic model. I always give it a good wipe down after each use. It has its occasional hiccup but is pretty reliable over all. For the last few years I’ve been looking for an excuse to purchase a chamber sealer. Especially since the prices have dropped a bit.

Can you get used/accustomed to smoked beer?

Yes and I’ve come across many recipes that call for just smoked malt. Steinbart’s, a lhbs in Portland used to have diff types of smoked malt in little jars so you could give them a good sniff.

Can you get used/accustomed to smoked beer?

Some of it will depend on the type of wood that was used in the smoking process. Beechwood, oak and fruit woods are all very different and the recommendation from the maltster will also vary, as far as usage. I love all that is smoked. However when it comes to meat, my wife complains of...

What did I cook this weekend.....

I’ll have to look at some recipes. This time of year we get into a beef and mushroom stew rut.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

16yr old me + super fast car = tragic country western song. Speaking of- I’ll know when ev’s are mainstream when there’s a country western song about driving to the river with fishing rods in my Teslas.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Yes. What’s gonna happen in a few years when the price of used, fast ev’s hit that “first car” price range?

What did I cook this weekend.....

Sounds delicious. Machaca traditionally was made from dried beef (beef jerky). Now it’s typically made from leftovers as you described. In restaurants it may be scrambled with eggs. In southern AZ, you won’t find the word machaca in restaurants. Most Mexican restaurants there still serve carne...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Holy Mackerel, I just took a spin in a coworkers Tesla Y. Wow. It’s brand new, just delivered in late Dec. I’m not sure which trim level it is but it was 42k. It does have extended range and awd. That thing is nice. The ride was super quiet, minimalist design etc. He also has the auto drive...

Consistently falling short of OG on Anvil Foundry

Have you double checked your mash temp with a handheld thermometer? Because the Anvil 120v doesn’t have a vigorous boil, I find that the wort gets stratified. I’ll give it a good stir before I take a reading. You didn’t say how you took your gravity reading. I rarely use a refractometer for...

    Need a carboy hoist

I can see ditching glass for beer. However, for mead or cider, I still prefer glass. I’ve downsized my mead and cider to 3 gallon batches. Those are much easier to move around.

Probably me. In another four or five years, I’ll post it again. Most likely with the same text as well.

    Must see YouTube Clips

Not sure if this has been posted before, but it’s a classic. I showed it to my kid a few days ago and it’s still hilarious. The real crime here is the cameraman stopped filming. Never stop filming.

    Need a carboy hoist

I’ve used the fermonster carboy carrier and it works well. I’ve started using square milk crates. It protests them while I’m moving stuff around and while they are just sitting on the ground. Obviously, hoisting them would not be a good idea.
