    Your best brew -ever-

Looks awesome, thx! Any special fermentation profile and conditioning?

    Grain Mill

I've got that same 3-roller mill, and have used my 12V Milwaukee brushless drill-driver for almost 3 years without problem. I use either a 4 or 6 ah battery, and it has never breathed hard to finish a grain bill for my 10-12 gallon batches (up to 39 lbs). I see no reason to buy a motor or...

    Upgrading kegerator to duotight/evabarrier questions

Good point about CO2 loss from the keg. The small diameter of EvaBarrier tubing (i.e. much less surface area), plus its inner liner, means that this product must have a much lower CO2 loss from the keg (at least relatively) versus, say, 5/16 vinyl tubing. [And, by the same reasoning, much lower...

    Upgrading kegerator to duotight/evabarrier questions

I don't follow. CO2 pressure inside the tubing means that there will be some CO2 loss through a permeable tubing to the atmosphere. This is only a cost issue, but is negligible for the trivial volume of CO2 lost. The partial pressure of O2 inside the tubing is essentially ZERO, and the partial...

    Upgrading kegerator to duotight/evabarrier questions

Ouch! An equivalent shutoff with check valve can be found at Brewhardware for $9 (plus shipping). Buy a few other things (like you always need), and the shipping is effectively reduced. Even if bought stand alone (with full shipping) it's a much better deal at BH.

    Senior design project ideas

One issue many lager brewers have is getting their lagering and crash temperatures as low as they would like (e.g. 28-34F). This issue is often experienced with stainless conicals with glycol chilling systems (with a coil inside the conical for heat exchange). [Those who can stuff their conical...

    pump for wort chiller?

I've got the pump you bought in two sizes (1/3 & 1/4 HP) for various uses around the brewery. I like it a lot (it's more powerful than my RipTides when I want some better flow and head capacity). However, one of these "froze" (ha!) when using it to CIP my conical with PBW at about 150F (the...

    Spike Complete System

This is of course The Electric Brewery design enclosure, and it fits well within the parameters of the mount. It's pretty flexible, and so I imagine it would accommodate most controllers of this style, but you should check the Spike mounting holes and ensure they will indeed work with this mount.

    Spike Complete System

Here is what I used for mine. It cantilevers/swivels a good bit away from the wall, and so I reinforced where the bolts would attach within the wall with some bracing before I tiled it. (The mounting holes did not line up conveniently with the studs in the wall). It's not fallen off yet, so I...

Questions regarding Kegging and Co2 for the beginner.

Hence your advice for the "all-MFL" approach, which I agree. (My first manifold was a barbed-type from Micromatic. What a piece of junk it was, the shut-offs didn't even have checks. Ask me how I found out, and immediately appreciated the value of these!) I would have been surprised if the need...

Questions regarding Kegging and Co2 for the beginner.

Hey DT, I'm curious about your selection of 5mm EVA for gas, rather than simply keeping both your gas and beer systems at 4mm. I would guess that unless you are pulling consecutive pints in short order, or have very little head space (buffer capacity) in your keg, that 4mm would allow gas to...

    Petition to Youtube - Craigtube

Well, I gotta admit that I also hate it when a fly/june bug gets into my brew (which despite best efforts, does happen when they start smelling that sweet wort)!

    Pot luck beer. Why not.

    Petition to Youtube - Craigtube

I watched the above "CraigTube is back" vid, and it seemed pretty clear that he knows the issue, it was probably him (such as copyright violation, just a guess), and he doesn't want to (or can't) fight it further.

    Mash starting time.

Also, I suggest relaxing a bit on precise timings. The world will continue if you miss almost any brewing step by a few or several minutes (exception being perhaps hop additions near/at the end of boil, and even then it may not be as hyper critical as you may think).

Tilt Hydrometer software not locating the tilt

This ^^. Connect up via bluetooth, then transmit via wi-fi and you're golden.

    Petition to Youtube - Craigtube

I swerved into some Craigtube videos like many/most HB'ers have when they searched for stuff. I really liked his kegging/cleaning series when I was moving into that, the processes from which I mostly now follow. Seems like a genuinely good guy, my main issue was that the vids were probably 3x...

    Is this grain milled?

That sounds great. Do you BIAB or condition your grains for milling?

    Rice hulls for boil kettle

Agree the plugging mechanisms and flow paths through a MT grain bed and BK hop debris are quite different, so I don't have any unrealistic expectations that hulls would work for this issue. But thought it to be an interesting question to ask. I suppose that if it did work, we would have heard...

    Rice hulls for boil kettle

OK, looks like a terminology issue, as I think of this as a dip tube. I assume you use this runoff tube for draining the kettle. If so, and its inlet is located at the center of the bk as you mentioned, then how does this work with your whirlpool, which piles up the garbage at the center? The...
