How can I combat "flat" flavor issues?

I am new to beer but have been doing cider for a bit, so im no expert. I do think that a little bit of splashing when racking to secondary or bottles is normal, and really no way to get around it. That being said, i know air is bad for an extended amount of time. For example, having too much air...

How can I combat "flat" flavor issues?

I am having the same problem as you, I just did a beer kit and the only thing I added was cascade hops for a 10 minute boil. I bottled it on the weekend, and the flavor was there, but it was a little weak and watered down. I am thinking I should have bought a bag of malt extract to add to the...

watered down taste to beer kit

It has been sitting in the secondary for a while, but I will pass my final judgement once its carbonated. I think I will pass on beer kits from now on and do some grains, or at very least a partial mash.

watered down taste to beer kit

hi guys, I just bottled my beer from a coopers original beer kit. I added 1 kg of dextrose, and .5 oz of cascade hops. It tasted pretty good, just watered down. Perhaps once it has carbonated it will be a little better. I made a beer kit years ago and I remember it being the same...

    advice on my second batch

could you not boil them for a while then add the water and chips to secondary? I live in Canada, and every brew shop I know of does not sell grains, which is stupid because we pretty much grow it all haha. The only way I think I can get it would be to order it onlinne, which could be expensive...

    advice on my second batch

thanks for the reply, I like your suggestion hercher. Only problem is that my brew shop does not sell grains, and for some reason no brew shop around here does, so I am forced to use a beer kit and just add to it. This one sells all the coopers beer kits, so thats what I have to start with. I...

    advice on my second batch

Thanks for the replies guys. I will give more thought on the ingredients, and I think your right it might be too much going on. I think I will take out the brown sugar, it was more just of an idea. I will have to see what type of hops my brew shop has. Would 1 oz of hops be enough?I know it...
