    Label Peelers says longer!

Wow! I'm glad I grabbed a couple pounds from farmhouse. Anyway, I pre ordered on 10/15, so I will probably be waiting a bit longer. No problems.

    Innacurate Hydrometer

If you own a 68F calibrated unit, do you use a temp conversion chart and if so which one?

    Innacurate Hydrometer

Ok but allow me one more question, at 68 does it read zero or does it read .001 (going back to my "confusing to calibrate theme)?
  4. dbrewski

    Innacurate Hydrometer

It would be convenient, but then you would need a custom temp adjustment scale for anything above 68, correct? You couldn't use a standard table.

    Innacurate Hydrometer

I'm not an expert and don't want to come off like I think I am but every hydrometer temp adjustment chart I've seen starts at 60. If you calibrate at 68 you're already supposed to be adding .0009, but you're hoping it reads 0? That could get confusing real quick if you ask me.

How long did it take you until you made a awesome batch?

I do all grain, but have read many times here you want to boil a small portion of the extract for the 60 minutes and save most of it for the last few minutes or even flameout. Boiling the extract accentuates the twang. Maybe a more experienced extract brewer can chime in. I hate to be "that...

    Innacurate Hydrometer

I would not throw it away. That's exactly how you calibrate a hydrometer, using 60F distilled water. If it is too high by .005, then you know to subtract that from each reading. BTW refractometers are not all they are cracked up to be in terms of accuracy. They also require a conversion factor...

    FermKeezer

Nice build, some great thought put into it. I think that freezer lid wired with controls might have stumped me. If you get some moisture problems these things are cheap and work great. My keezer's been dry since I got it.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Is this a New Belgium Belgo clone or your own recipe? I love that beer.

    Label Peelers says longer!

I heard that HopsUnion was saying they may not get all their hops fully pelletized until the end of the year. It's a process that takes time. If everyone wasn't waiting around trying to snap up all the hops at once, the process would be: harvest in fall, process and pelletize by late year, then...

    Thoughts on Ideal Brewing Software

I'm looking at it right now, it does have an inventory section. Not sure that it ties into recipes or not, since I haven't used it.

    Thoughts on Ideal Brewing Software

What about online alternatives? Hopville.com is very clean, and it's free, but doesn't have as many features. I just checked out brewersfriend.com, and it was pretty darned detailed. There are limitations to the free version, but the paid version is only $9.99 a year. I know homebrewers are...

Do you have other hops on this order? If you do I think I can just drop a pound and you can pick it up. PM me.

    Thoughts on Ideal Brewing Software

Free cloud storage plus all the other functions you'd commonly expect. I agree with MalFet that it's really a UI challenge at this point, at least for the desktop. Of the bigger ones that I can think of like Beersmith, BeerTools Pro, Promash, the interaction design is dreadful. I would focus on...

    All Grain - Aeration

when you say MixStir is it one of those paint mixers that attach to a drill? When do you oxygenate with it...in the kettle, or the bucket?

wegz15, I grabbed more simcoe than I need to help close out the second 44lb split. I can spare a pound or two.

Hops Direct just put up 2012 Crop

yes, thanks but it's coming to my business and I won't be there. I send them there so my packages don't "walk away" from my front porch.

    All Grain - Aeration

I have heard, and it makes sense, that in order to keep those aeration stones clean you need to turn on the O2 before you put it into the wort, that way the pressure keeps the wort from working into the pores. If it gets in there and gets caked up you might have it pop off as one poster states...
