These are good points, and since previous years didn't specify I'm not to worried about it. The beer threads have been when it goes in the fermenter, and how much goes in the fermenter. When comparing year to year, it's best to use the same conditions. But, again, since previous cider threads...

I didn't see anything on previous years' threads, so I assume amount in the fermenter. I have very little lees loss with a cider anyway.

Came to post my totals so far this year and saw there was no 2018 thread! Same rules as previous years. January 1 to December 31, 2018. Ciders and cider variants welcome. I'm at 15 gallons of modified EdWort's Apfelwein Total = 15 gallons

Probably true of EEs. I'm ChE so I'm more interested in water chemistry and recipe tweaks. Of course, I was always told that ChEs are the drunks of the engineering department, so that might be a factor.

Whatever goes into the fermenter goes on the total. It's been that way in previous years, so that way we're comparing apples to apples.

For the ferm chamber just off the shelf 1x6 from the hardware store. I did my keezer first and spent $80 on a 2"x8"x12' piece of red oak at a lumber specialty store, I was shaking in my boots on that one. Fortunately I only needed 10' so the couple oopses I made were easily fixed.

It's really not hard, go for it! Just use cheap wood your first go around in case you goof.

that's fair. My ferm chamber sits next to my 4 tap keezer in the garage, takes up about the same footprint as the fridge would. Btw, if all you're worried about is a collar for the ferm chamber, it's not a lot of skill required. 3 straight cuts and one drilled hole for the temperature...

I built a fermentation chamber from a small chest freezer (1.8 ft3 iirc). Put on a big enough collar to fit the 6 and 7 gallon fermonster, works great. Got the freezer new from home depot on sale for $80.
