Polishing Fermenter Cone? Losses due to yeast dumping

That’s when you just open up the dump valve into your glass and enjoy!

Polishing Fermenter Cone? Losses due to yeast dumping

I’ve considered making a diy collection jar like this [valve - sight glass - valve], which would serve the same purpose, maybe ill give that a shot.

Polishing Fermenter Cone? Losses due to yeast dumping

I've got a Spike CF5 and I'm generally brewing NEIPAs with LAIII yeast. After fermentation, I like to dump the yeast prior to dry hopping. Generally I will drop the temp to 60° for 1-2 days to help the yeast flocculate. Lately I've had massive loses while trying to get all the yeast out. I also...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Glad to hear I’m not the only one! This is the first genuinely undrinkable batch I’ve had in a long time.

I’ll be on a similar time frame if you wouldn’t mind sharing with me as well!

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Lol will do... because I had already planned on going! I've had my cousin send me some of their beers, so I'm gonna stock up. Might also try and make the pilgrimage to Treehouse, but I'm not sure if I'll have time for that. I wish the one in Saratoga Springs was open.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

While anything is possible, I doubt that I mixed them up. I wouldn't say I got hop burn from the Nelson, I definitely did get it from the Galaxy I used, but once that went away with age, the saturated hoppy flavor was great. I'm going to Albany in September, I'll bring you the bag of Nelson :p

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I brewed with some 2023 Galaxy from YVH and it was amazing, although I went a bit heavy on the hops and had to wait about 4 weeks for the hop burn to calm down a bit. On the other hand, I tried to brew with some 2023 Nelson Sauvin from YVH and it was awful, just disgusting. The beer to me had a...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

My Simcoe was only 11.9% AA, but I also adjusted everything in Brewfather to account for this. All my hops are kept frozen in their original bags, never had any issues with them. Weights and times are all consistent. I don't have access to Cellar Science, so I used Fermentis US-05. I will say...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

Appreciate the follow up! I'm going to rule out oxidation, because I believe I've done everything I can (within reason) to mitigate it (sanitizer purged kegs, purged lines, no oxygen in the conical, purged hops, 3g AA in mash, .5 packaging). My recent NEIPA's have also been really great as...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I agree with that, but I was trying to use the hop creep to drive down the FG. That's also why I did a secondary dry hop post fermentation, albeit with smaller amounts of hops just to see if I could get something.

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I took my first crack at brewing the recipe in the first post and I gotta say I'm pretty disappointed. I'm getting virtually no hop flavor or aroma at all, like almost nothing, also very little bitterness, I'm kinda stumped. I kegged it on the 14th, so maybe more time will help? Used the water...

BIAB attempt at Tree House IPA

I made a bunch of changes to start making what I consider good NEIPA's. One that you could easily do to combat some oxidation is adding 3g of ascorbic acid to the mash, .5g when kegging. I can't isolate all the variables I changed to say that this one change made the big difference, but AA is...

What changes made your beer better?

I was already doing the following: Temp control Yeast starters / nutrients Controlling for water additions Loosely monitoring mash ph Closed transfers But I started making my best NEIPA’s when I changed all of the following. Unfortunately made all of these changes at once, so I’m not sure...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I happened to see this youtube video and around the 22 minute mark, he mentions "yeast soaking up hop flavor" and how too much yeast can be a problem. I've never heard of this before, has anyone experienced or experimented with this?

    Serviceable plate chiller?

    Those are pricey 😳

    Serviceable plate chiller?

Maybe it's down to flow rate, he mentions the flow rates of 1-2 gpm, he's also very inconsistent with his documentation of flow rates I might add. Lol I wonder what this kid would think about all these people trying to brew beer and critiquing his paper. Even the lower end wort pumps are...

    Serviceable plate chiller?

Yea I wonder what factors would lead to better performance in line with even cheapo amazon plate chillers? I believe he says the plates are made of 24ga steel, which is inline with some commercial heat exchangers, accord to my quick googling.

    Serviceable plate chiller?

Wow that's pretty cool! I wish I did something interesting like that for a school project.
