New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Been a long time since I had Hop Ranch. Might need to revisit that one. Had Founders Azacca IPA recently thought it was pretty decent.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Thinking of maybe doing Azacca/citra/Columbus in the kettle and then Azacca/citra/mosiac for the dry hop. Heard good things about these Azacca hops but they were way underwhelming by themselves. Have a pound to use up though.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

My last batch was citra/galaxy/equinox. Tasted good and was a hit at a party. Some people say they get green pepper from it, I didn't detect it. I used equal hop amounts for all additions. Going to give azacca hops another go today. Used them in a single hop beer and did not get much of anything...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Sipping on a pale ale I recently brewed with yeast that I harvested from a couple cans of Treehouse's Green. And I am stumped on the yeast. I am getting some Belgian qualities that I do not get from treehouse beers. Could be a brewing error on my part. Beer doesn't taste bad though. Can't really...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I actually got that throat thing you are talking about the first time I brewed this beer. I used spring water and added 1 tsp of CaCl and 1/2 tsp of gypsum per 5 gal of water. Since switching to RO water I have not had that happen again. The harshness eventually went away over time in that first...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Pulled the first pint of my latest. Citra, Galaxy and Equinox. I was a little worried of the green pepper rep that Equinox gets and I have to say I'm not getting it. Maybe a tiny bit but that could just be because I'm looking for it. I don't think I would ever go heavy with it but I wouldn't...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Think I'll go Citra/Galaxy/Equinox. I'll report back with the results. Maybe if I catch the green pepper before dry hopping I'll leave the Equinox out of the dry hop.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I was just about to ask about Equinox I have half a pound in the freezer that I have been holding out on using because I'm worried about the green pepper flavor people say it gives. I've also heard that the hop can be very tropical. I guess I'll go ahead and give it a go. Thinking citra/Mosiac/...

Be cool to see how yours turns out. Definitely not a bad yeast. Produces a nice clean beer. Just felt like it was missing something that I like in this style of beer.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Exactly. This beer I used 1272. I find that no matter what yeast I use I still get a hazy beer. I think it's mostly the hop oil and flaked ingredients that give the beer the haze. Regardless of the yeast I get very similar results. I do like the esters the English strains give the beer compared...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Here is my latest attempt. Been spending most of my brewing time playing around with this style. Been mostly just brewing IPAs and pales. This is more of a pale ale I guess. Malt bill is pretty much a clone recipe I found for trilliums Fort Point pale ale. For hops I used Citra, El Dorado and...

Going to Edinburgh, Stirling and St. Andrews Scotland any suggestions?

The Hanging Bat and Holyrood 9A are a couple of good craft beer bars in Edinburgh.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Did a couple more versions of this beer. First one was 1 Citra 1 Galaxy .75 Amarillo .25 Columbus. The second one I just kegged was 2 Citra 1 Nelson gave the uncarbed beer a taste and man the Nelson really dominates this beer. Kind of surprising with the half pound of Citra. Not a bad beer by...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Here's a shot of mine. Pretty happy with how the beer turned out. I didn't have any Conan and didn't really care for a previous attempt at this kind of beer using the London 3 so I went with Wyeast 1098. Did equal amounts of Mosaic Galaxy and Citra for the hops. Awesome aroma on this thing...

Anybody ever used wyeast 1098 on this type of beer?

Heady Topper VT Weekend Trip/Beer Run

Blackback Pub in Waterbury and Three Penny Taproom in Montepelier are two of my favorites. Drink as much Hill Farmstead as you can. The brewery is a little out of the way but worth the visit if you have time. Cheers!

    Hateful 8 - Seen it?

I can understand why people might not like it. It's 90 percent dialogue. For me the dialogue is what I like most about QT flicks so I really dug the film. My only complaint is I feel it was a bit long which might discourage me for multiple viewings.
