    Florida Hops experiment

From what I can tell when the plant sprouted had a lot to do with mine. The three plants sprouted at three different times. The centennial got off to an early start and at about two feet has stopped moving for the last month or so. The Willamette was the second to shoot out and and doing...

    Atypical wood brew stand

Hey Kerschup, would you mind sharing the dimensions? I've been pondering a wood build myself, same reason, I can't weld but can build with wood pretty well. I really like how you built all the wiring and pipes into the channel in the front, it makes it look really clean. As I've told you...

    Florida Hops experiment

I was not prepared for how much these things can move on one night. Yesterday I unwound the top 12in from the tomato cage and strung it along the fence. This morning I go check on them and two of the bines had rewound up the cage. I'm not talking draped over the cage, fully wound up it, tight...

    Florida Hops experiment

Had to move to plan B for a longer term placement of the plants. The work on my house is taking way longer to finish (when doesn't it) than I expected so the twine to the rafters is out. I've unravelled a few bines per plant and draped them along the fence, I'm hoping I didn't do too much...

Mjaadland, what is the brass balloon looking fixture attached to one of your t-fittings?

Show of your 2013 Hops Garden! (picture gallery)

Here's mine, a centennial, a galena and a Willamette. Plan on building a twine system up to the rafters in a couple weeks once the work on my house is finished.

    Florida Hops experiment

I moved my centennial from its current pot to a 20g pot today. Overall I think it went well but a few of the upper inches broke when trying to unwind from the tomato cage. The other two plants have been growing like crazy and this one just seemed to stall out. The centennial was the only one...

    Moving fermenting beer for bottling

I would agree, moving it shouldn't be a problem. My chest freezer (fermentation chamber) is in my garage but I bottle in the kitchen. I move my bucket everytime I bottle and normally let it sit about 30-40 mins before I begin racking and haven't had a problem.

Growing Hops In Florida Tampa Area

This is probably the last week I'll be able to move them. The Galena is already at the top of the tomato cage I have it in, it's going to need a trellis or twine ASAP. Fingers crossed this is the last cold snap.

Growing Hops In Florida Tampa Area

Luckily mine are in 20g pots so I just brought them inside so no damage here.

    Florida Hops experiment

We got it pretty good in Tampa too. All three plants seemed to survive pretty well, now hopefully it doesn't get too cold this weekend. Of course I fertilized the plants yesterday so hopefully not too much of it ran off with the rain, what can you do, just part of life in FLA. At this point...

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Black Shadow - Cascadian Dark Ale aka Black IPA

Thanks Jason, exactly what I was looking for, I think this one might be easing for my next brew day. Cheers!

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Black Shadow - Cascadian Dark Ale aka Black IPA

How did this one come out? Any tasting notes? I'm looking to brew a cascadian and yours is one of the few I've seen with dehusked grain (one of the key requirements for the style) but would like to know how it came out first. Is this something you've tried a lot or is it experimental?

    Cascades in Key West

I got a couple tomato cages for mine, they are only 54 inches so I'll still need to add twine at some point but it will work for now. You could also make your own trellis, I found this on YouTube. http://youtu.be/zwWvO7loI5g

    Florida Hops experiment

After about two weeks I was able to see the strong bines and cut the rest back leaving 4 in each of mine. They are growing crazy fast. It's become my morning routine to check see how much they change over night, I can't believe just how much they do sometimes. I need to post some new pics. I...

    Removing plastic labels?

There is always the option of leaving the labels on. Nothing says you have to remove them, yes it's nice to not be pour your beer labelled as something else, but free bottles are free bottles.

    Removing plastic labels?

Completely agree with the pain in ass. I had a bunch when I first started brewing and tried a bunch of different things and nothing worked. I tried boiling them, the dishwasher, five days in oxyclean and even took the labels off and let them sit in the oxy another couple days and the glue was...
