    Trigger alarm with this timer?

I am just about ready to wire up everything in my box, so I can't speak to performance on brew day. That said, I'm very happy with the timer. I've tested its basic functionality and find it very easy to use. It has four input buttons for the time (corresponding to 00:00), similar to the Omega...

    temperature control for a heatstick

Glad you caught that since I didn't. PID is better then, since you'd still have to get a separate relay w/ the aquarium controller. ... another low cost option would be to use a remote kitchen thermometer w/ an alarm and simply plug the heat stick in. Unplug and remove the heat stick when you...

    temperature control for a heatstick

A PID would be best, but this means getting at least a relay but really an SSR to utalize it to its full capacity (ebay may have a cheaper option, but it's hard to beat Auber's PIDs... I tried... it's only their shipping that stinks). $52.50 for the PID shipped plus wires, SSR, heatsink, temp...

    How big is your panel?

That's why I picked plastic. I wanted to buy as few 'extra' tools as possible - so regular hole saws worked well with a plastic box. ...that said, if I wasn't trying (pretending?) to make this a 'cheap-er' project, I would go metal.

    How big is your panel?

Are you doing the same sort of system (i.e. number of components, PIDs, switches, etc.)? I used a much smaller case, but only have a timer and one PID. My case is kinda awkwardly shaped, but its around 11x6.5. It's still in process, but will be cozy (but not cramped). I managed to cram the...

K type thermocouple or RTD sensor

I know this is ressurecting an old thread, but FYI: While the thermowell is watertight, the whole unit is not. The threaded portion is tack welded on, but does not seal against the thermowell. You could use some silicone sealant to fix this (I would have done this in retrospect). The...

Ward labs report for Boulder, CO, opinions?

Good thoughts ajdelange. At the risk of hijacking this thread, is there any one good resource to go to then? Every spreadsheet seems to have some flaw/benefit and will give you dif. results (perhaps tuned to the designers preferences/water/recipes?)? It seems like any of this is just a 'ball...

Ward labs report for Boulder, CO, opinions?

I wish my waters "problem" was too little alkalinity. But doesn't lime reduce alkalinity? Or at least precipitate out the little calcium in the water profile per Kai's work here?

Ward labs report for Boulder, CO, opinions?

Can you be more specific on the misinformation, that way I wont continue to spread/perpetrate it?

Ward labs report for Boulder, CO, opinions?

Have you brewed with it before? If not, do nothing and worry about other factors. Okay, not nothing. Get rid of the chlorine/chloramine (the former can be removed by boiling/carbon filter. my water has chloramine and I use campdem tabs to treat it before brewing. Still not satisfied? Well...

Best way to add fresh fruit? (Saskatoon berry)

I made a cherry stout with some fresh cherries. If I did it again I would have liked to concentrate the fruit flavor. I did half the stout w/ cherries and half without and the recipe lost a lot of body w/ minimal flavor (cherry) contribution. There's a lot of water in fruit. As for timing, I...

    Pan World Pump

I'm wondering if anyone is using something like the Pan World 30px or 40px in their system? http://www.panworldpump.com/products_01.php?product_sn=50&pd_sn=3 I recognize they're not explicitly FDA approved or rated for boiling temps, so I'm curious about other's experiences. On a...

    Switch at different voltage

I'm wondering if a switches amperage rating changes as the voltage on it changes. For example, I have a switch rated at 660V and 10A. I'm wondering if this can handle switching a 240V 30A load (in lieu of a power relay for a 240V 5500W element). Thanks for any help.

    Trigger alarm with this timer?

A follow up. I am trying to figure out if the cryptic instructions indicate you can program a 'schedule' into the timer. Say for a boil: 30 min, 15 min, 10 min, 5 min corresponding to hop additions or something.

    Trigger alarm with this timer?

I was looking for a cheaper alternative to Kai's Omega timer (or the Auber timer). I am trying to figure out if a Sestos B2E timer (found via ebay, http://bit.ly/jvKZud) can be wired to trigger a 120v alarm. I know relay output is possible, but not sure about an alarm (or a workaround to...

    Alternative PIDs, anyone use?

Thanks everyone. Really helps clarify why people run with Auber. ... now I just need to settle on my system config (and stop vacillating between PIDs/BrewTroller/BCS-460)

    Alternative PIDs, anyone use?

Thanks for the input everyone. The REX-C100 does not have a manual mode, and according to the seller is not designed for SSR output. Maybe I'll use one for my MLT probe since (1) doesn't need manual mode, and (2) I don't know that I'll be wiring the system to even allow the MLT PID to run the...

2 PIDs, 1 element, switch control

I apppreciate the thought, but I'll have 2 PIDs regardless even if one is only reading temp. from the MLT. AND since I'll have two, and two possible temp probe readings to use as control points for a PID, I was wondering if switching between them was possible. Regardless the kettle PID will...
