    Going from mead to beer

go with the first one, just because it's less waiting for it to be ready : )

    Couple questions...

the difference between distilled and reverse osmosis is how the water is extracted. in distilled, temperature is increase and usually pressure is decreased, this leads to evaporation. the evaporated vapor is then condensed by flowing through a cooler section of pipe. this brings only water...

    fruit beer help

sure can! i haven't done it but i've seen it talked about on here. you can add the fruit into the primary, at pitching, and extract alcohol from the fruit sugars, or you can add it like you would a dry hop.

    all my mistakes ...

on the inside ... stuck all up allover the carboy inside now that krausen has subsided. though i'm tempted to sanitize to sanitize a bottle brush and go at it ... i figured best to let it sit. ... maybe consider racking to a secondary in two weeks.

    Stupid question about Juice.

i did cider from fresh pressed juices, and left it 6 months before trying. it was okay. then forgot about it until now and i still haven't had much of it. it's been a year, i made six gallons. it's getting good as we round the one year mark. i corked in normal wine bottles and they...

    all my mistakes ...

right i meant steeping, i'm just learning extract. so blender is okay ? no worries about so finely chopped that it won't get pulled out in the steeping bag ? and the material allover the carboy is definitely hops and leftover krausen ... it just, would be nice to be able to see if the...

    Stupid question about Juice.

how did you get 13% ? did i miss where you said what yeast was used ? i made apple cider/wine last fall, but even with adding brown sugar i barely got to 10% alcohol. are you using concentrate cans ? or just pure juice ?

    all my mistakes ...

Okay, so i decided i'd "save money" by getting a few recipes instead of buying kits. made up a recipe for porter meets belgian as follows: Steep: 3 Oz chocolate malts 3 Oz Black Patent Malt 1 Lb Crystal malt 60 DegL. add: 6.6 lbs malts extract. 2 Lbs belgian candy sugar. and a...

    Ginger beer lack of body

Did you use any source of yeast nutrient ? what ABV did it end up at ? consider making it out of apple juice if you have it local, instead of water : )

First time racking to secondary woes

i use iodophore, but i know ... Dont fear the foam. that smell, will off gas at any temperature and through even the beer, it's non reactive to liquid and that's exactly what makes it disinfecting. the smell will NOT remain if the liquid is allowed to sit at room temperature a little...

How would this look for an IPA?

do people consider 45 ibu's to be Ipa ? mostly what i see in the craft selection i thought was 60+ i aimed for 50 in my current brew (admittedly more of a porter)

conflicting info. on yeast starters ...

thanks guys that helped a ton

conflicting info. on yeast starters ...

i was told on here not to use corn syrup for my yeast starters as it acclimates the yeast to only simple sugars. ... but i also read that you want to use light LME not dark because it's easiest for the yeast colony to grow in the simpler syrup. is there a definitive answer? ... the...
