How much do you brew ?

If I count the batch that I brewed with my friend that got me into this 2 years ago...I'm doing my 5th batch. Nothing like you guys! I definitely was over-protective of my first 3 batches I did myself but now I look forward to having chances to give them to other people to clear out some room.

    Lagering Question

Hey all...I'm lagering for my first time and I think I may have messed up the process. I bought a BrewJacket and works really well but when I transferred to my secondary, the temperature probe broke. By the time I got the new probe, the beer had gotten down to about 40F which I was quite happy...

    2nd Batch Started!

No, I didn't take an OG...I have the hydrometer but I really never think about it 8) I really should.

    2nd Batch Started!

Well, I started my 2nd batch finally. I have to thank everyone for the advice on my first. My ale came out awesome and I've gotten compliments on it. Its definitely not the best beer I'll make in my life but I have to say its not just good for my first beer...its just really good! So I...

    5 gallons is too much!

Make the 5 gallons and then ship half to me, I'll drink it 8)

    Cracked open my first bottle...

If you are bottle conditioning you need to wait a few weeks before putting them in the fridge. If you put them in right away you won't get any carbonation 8)

    Cracked open my first bottle...

Will do! I think what I also want to do is go to the brewery that makes the beer which is nearby and try it off their tap since they have a bar in Ybor. I'd love to see how mine compares to theirs.

    Cracked open my first bottle...

I'll be honest, it was less an anxiousness thing and more a completely "I had no idea it needed longer in the fridge" thing. Trust me, if I could wait 3 weeks, I could have waited another day or two! :tank: But this is great info

    Cracked open my first bottle...

That wouldn't surprise me...I only had it in the fridge an hour. How long would you suggest? Not that I mind the malty flavor mind you, its something I'd say I like.

    Cracked open my first bottle...

Well, I have a fairly busy schedule so I need a free weekend day to fit it in which I hope I have coming next weekend! I did a red ale that was a recipe from a local brewery here in Tampa. I'm torn between doing a stout/porter for my next or a wheat ale. I like to think I have strong...

    Cracked open my first bottle...

I'm sure I probably did it a little too early but its been 3 weeks since I bottled which was the minimum time to wait and I just couldn't wait anymore. So before I went to dinner I put one bottle in the fridge. I just had to see what I had created. I cracked open the bottle and was rewarded...

    Signs of carbonation?

I'll give it a few weeks then before I check. What do people do in the situation that carbonation fails? Is there anything? I know my friend did a beer a couple months ago and he was pretty unhappy with the carbonation.

    Signs of carbonation?

I need to wait a few weeks for that though I assume? lol, I hope I don't see that! But they are conditioning in a bath tub all the same.

    Signs of carbonation?

This question comes from ignorance. I bottled my first batch last Wednesday night and I took a look at them last night. They look pretty much like they did when I bottled them. Should I expect any signs of carbonation? What would those signs even look like?

    First batch in the bucket!

I'm sure I'll get better as I go...but I'm completely confident this is the best beer I've ever made so I'm not too worried about it. :tank: Yeah, I do have a hydrometer and unfortunately I didn't really understand what to do with it. I have a better idea now and when I do my next one I...

    Homebrewing cost effectiveness

My brother has asked me twice, since I started this a few weeks ago, about cost savings. In the long run, I'll definitely save, just because I always buy more expensive beers. But I know I'll still buy some beer so its moot anyway. I'm just doing this because its fun!

    First batch in the bucket!

Actually, yesterday was 9 days. But I'm in no rush...the instructions said do this step at 7 - 10 days and I waited till day 9. I know I won't be drinking this for over a month still. Trust me, patience has nothing to do with it...you don't know me (yet...I'm not going anywhere!) but if there...

    First batch in the bucket!

oh, well, I'll know for next time! it already tasted pretty good to me so even if its not perfect by the recipe standards, it'll come out fine once its done

    First batch in the bucket!

Well, the dry hops are in now and since I had it cracked open (what a great aroma wafted out 8) ) I spooned some into a glass for a little taste. I'm very happy with how this coming out! It was pretty decent warm and not completely finished. Will it stay as cloudy as it was?
