I ordered a 2 pre prohibition lager kits (for a total of 10 gals) from Northen Brewer and it came with 2 packages of Saflager S-23. The more I read about S-23 it sounds as though most use 2 packs for a 5 gal batch. Should I pick up 2 more packages? Thanks

There are several people on here (I think Edwort is one) that have used those. I got one from my LHBS that held LME. Will be using it next weekend. Shouldn't have any problems. Sound like Trubadour has the same thing but blue.

If all goes as planned I may try to pull of both brews so I would be brewing all day. As far as the BIL the more the merrier.

This will be my third all grain. Me and the guys that I brew with just moved up to doing 10 gallon batches. I have a cooler MLT and keggle for a propane boil. I have a similar problem, and from my research the pre isomerized hop extract (isohop at morebeer) seems to be the best alternative. Though I don't know personally the results you would get. In a week I will be trying the product hopshot but it is not isomerized so I will try to boil it for 1 hr...

No I added my hops as a late addition when I was supposed to add it at the beginning to be boiled for 60 min. 0 and 60 min two different things depending if you count up or down. So any way I believe I have the flavor and aroma and no bitterness.

Thanks Denny. Although I am not the greatest judge of bitterness I think I will do as planned and keep a few bottles that will be primed seperatly without the hopshot so that I might be able to try to judge any perceived difference in bitterness. I will try to report back with what I find.

Denny, if I may ask a question, wouldn't the addition of the priming sugar to the boil provide the needed enviroment for isomerization? Or is the problem the qty of water/sugar.

Does anyone have any experience with this product? I was 2 days into my fermentation when I realized I read my receipe wrong. For my 10 gal of belgian blonde I put the 2 oz of hop in at 60min (flavor/aroma addition) and not at the 0 / boil for 60min mark. I am assuming the taste will be real...
