    Help me get stoned!!

Well, kinda. Here in the beautiful state of Arkansas, we are deprived of Stone Brewing beers. I have read a lot about Stone's IPA and would love to try it. Are there any homebrewers willing to mail me a bottle of Stone IPA? I would gladly pay all costs incurred plus some for your time, and...

    Just finished college...

Thanks everyone!! I am just now starting to feel like a human again from last night. Worth it, yes. I actually started school about 7 years ago, then took a few years off to work for the family business. Then I realized that I didn't quite know it all and went back and basically had to start...

some pics of my new brew stand

Ebay is a great place for casters, I bought some from this guy. I got 4 250lb swivel (two locking) and adapter stems so they'll go into 1.5" square tubing for 23 bucks shipped.

    Christmas for my husband

What if you did caps in a color scheme of his brewery, such as a sold cap with a stripe or dot on it, or maybe even the brewery's initials. I personally, dislike gift certificates and think that he would really appreciate a gift that while may not be perfect, but you put though into it. The...

    My RIMS job

I do plan to recirculate 100% of the time. I think I'll put the probe on the output of the HEX based on POL and Linc's advice. I don't know about directly at the output though, would you think heat transfer from the stainless itself could affect the probe? I think putting in a tee a foot or...

    My RIMS job

Another thing I thought of is that the PID turns the heater on or off. So if there is an issue with the wort getting too hot, I can just up the flow rate on the pump. BTW, Pol, on your HERMS what size tube do you use? I am thinking of either 3/8 or 1/2 hard stainless tubing for my system.

    My RIMS job

Interesting POL. I was looking at the Brew-Magic, which is what I am cloning, and they have the temp probe on the output of the MLT. I guess some in-depth testing will be in order before a first batch.

    My RIMS job

First, I am using a PID, not a standard temp controller. The PID will calibrate itself to my system to figure out how to heat it without overheating. Secondly, I'll have the mash water up to strike temps with the gas burner, mash in, then use the RIMS to maintain a mash temp. So I don't think...

    My RIMS job

I am using gas burners to heat the water in the MLT and HLT, then I'll use the RIMS portion to maintain mash temps. It really is a hybrid system.

    My RIMS job

I just wired it.. the heater is resistive so its heat output is a function of the applied voltage. I think I'm going to get around 1200 or so watts at about 10 amps with 120VAC The "source" is Star Mechanical in Springdale, Arkansas. http://http://www.star-mechanical.com/

    My RIMS job

I'm using a 1/2" MPT stainless RTD that is mounted to the output of the mash tun. Should have it hopefully plumbed this weekend... well maybe.

    My RIMS job

I'm not insulating the RIMS heater. I think it will be do fine without any insulation... We'll see at least.

    My RIMS job

I actually have an industrial supply store about 10 minutes away that can beat just about any online source (Grainger, McMaster, BuyFittingsOnline) by a decent margin. I think my 1/2" couplings I welded into the keggles were about 3 bucks a piece. Overall in JUST the heater, I have about a...

    My RIMS job

Sorry the delay on posting. The brewery build took a back seat to me trying to finish college (10 days left, by the way). We're back in gear though... Made a lot of progress: And the 99.9% final product, complete with 0 - 30 psi adjustable regulator: The Grey wire will...

    Sulphury Ciders

Let it go. I let my first batch go for about 2 months, bottled with priming sugar. The smell stayed for a good month, then cleaned up. Is your cider still cloudy? Those bottles have aged for 8 months now, and keep getting better and better. i read where Apfelwine really smoothes out after a...

    Kitchenaid grind (pictures)

I would go finer. I don't see any flour. Would you describe them as chopped or crushed? You're wanting a crush... split open the hulls and then grind the starches inside up.

    Mini-Tri Clamp

Has anyone ever tried to find mini-tri clamp fittings? I'm talking about flange diameters of 1/2" or 3/4". I know Sabco sells them, but wants an arm and a leg. Just curious if anyone else knows if these exist to a end user....
