English Porter Black Pearl Porter (AG)

I hope you fellow brewers appreciate this post starting. What a memory to taste this recipe. It is a true winner in my mind. Perhaps I spend too much time in my igloo!!!

What is malt dust? How does it form? Why dangerous?

And I thought brewers said "Malt dust" when they cursed just like farmers say "Heifer dust"! Seriously dust is a big concern at feed mills and drying systems around me in Canada. Just keep your head back when you pour malt in your mill! Dust is bad long term to your health without breathing...

Stupid Outdoor Brewing Question - Burners for Newbies

Pick a spot that works best for you and where you store your basic brewing equipment you haul out each time. If I was a long term renter I would see about erecting a small shed that you store your stuff in and brew at the door out of the wind and rain and store your stuff there. I store my...

How many gallons of Cider in 2016

I am making 10 gallons of cider this year so this makes 863.5 Gallons. Hope it turns out with the addition of stevia to sweeten the .998 and 1.000 batches. I added 1/2 tsp to the .998 cider yeast batch and 1/4 tsp to the SO-5 yeast batch. Cider on. Our brewing club bought 140 galllons to split...

What container to pick up juice from orchard?

I take corny kegs and star san spray bottle. Open up kegs after a swirl and pour out the few ounces of star san. Fill with apple juice. Spray lid with star san. install lid and away you go. No danger! I use a butcher cord to daisy chain them upright as well. This way I know for sure the...

I suggest raising the wort temp. 2 degrees and swirling your primary to wake up your yeast. Works almost every time for me. This is a super brew with fond memories for me!

    Traveling with kegs?

I suggest going to a wine brew shop and purchasing wine kit plastic pails. Simply put kegs in pails and add ice if you are worried. I take beer to Az from my igloo in Canada so I leave at 20 below zero and drive 2600 miles south west to the heat. I put my kegs in plastic garbage bags over...

    Transporting kegs 3 hours away

If I am transporting a beer I always carbonate and cool beer down in my keezer. I then pour a beer to see if it is crystal clear and then do the above. The first part beer may be partly cloudy. This allows you to focus on other things like the bride! Great method above.

    Transporting kegs 3 hours away

I use used wine kit pails and one with the bottom cut out to stack it on other pail to transport and use with my cold plate set up. I put keg in stacked pail and add ice. I leave it on ice when I hook up to my plate chiller that is inside a cooler with ice on the plate. This allows prechilling...

Vanilla beans are $7.00 each in Canada so you have a bargain supplier. I get mine when I stay in AZ on line. I would not use the extract but others might. Use the best, taste the best! Others may say you are spot on. I made this a long time ago(2013) and mashed at 153 because I did not heat...

Vanilla beans are your friend on this journey. If you are brave: cut strip and soak beans in bourbon ( I would use two or less if you have not been on this journey before) and if you are not a risk taker use vodka. Get the soaking done now!! Please report back.

Follow what the master brewer offered you the chance to experience. It is a winner and why overthink something without trying it first. Establish your base brew, think the next steps through and then decide what is best for you to do next time.

Want to get into kegging, need some help

I have 12 corney kegs and only three are in keezer for serving. I keep the kegs at 15 psi and it carbs at about 2.4 volumes. I serve at 10-12 psi. They store fine. Enjoy the hobby. Once you see how easy it is to fill, carb and use kegs you will never want to clean all those botttles again...

Stout on CO2 - Either overcarbed or won't pour

I carb my stouts to 1.4 units or about 6 psi carb on regulator and when I want to serve I set at 10 psi for the session. I bleed corney and reset to 6 psi afterwards (end of session) Yes you will get foam from a stout tap to knock C)2 out of beer. It will cascade and settle down if you rinse...

    Grain mill cost recovery

You need to go to a farm sale and buy a rolling mill. Usually last item sold. Cheap. I got one from a farmer for $70.00 Canadian. Rollers were new! Has feed roller and gate as well as a rock feature where rollers open up on a spring if you hit small rocks when doing corn etc at a farm,
