    Grainfather just purchased

I'm an experienced brewer for many moons now and recently was given my Grainfather as a b day semi-retirement gift. I recently kegged my 1st beer - a light pale ale that turned out awesome! I've never had such a light extract turn out anything near this - no masked flavours, weird twang, etc...

    Grainfather!!

My thinking would be "yes" of course. It's reasonably priced and a relatively compact piece of kit. I would suggest some accessories however, ie - hop spider, Graincoat, GFCI for plug, etc. I've only used it once but see a lot of potential. My approach is to use some "built" tried and true...

    Grainfather!!

The company that prepared the recipe did...Noble Grape puts together "Grainkids" style recipes. That being said, there was a discrepancy between my calls using Sparge Pal, GF and Brewers Friend software. I'm thinking it might've been some things like sea brew suggested but thanks for the input.

    Grainfather!!

Yes SB...it was supposed to be 23L...now I've got 10L FFS...I'll pay more attention to the strain and drain the next time. It's really good beer though! A real thirst quencher...I'm hoping I can keep enough to fill a couple bombers with my Blichmann...

    Grainfather!!

OMF! Went to kegerator and lost half my first keg of my Northern Light Pale Ale...so pissed off I had to have a beer before cleaning up a mess. Not sure if the post or picnic tap stuck at the moment. It's time for me to bite the bullet and get my taps on. Oh well, here's a look at my first...

    Grainfather!!

Completed a light Canadian Pale Ale for my first Grainfather run. The recipe predicted 23 liters but i only ended up with 20. The OG and FG were all with the style range so I'm a bit puzzled. Anyway, I couldn't hold off trying it after a few days on the gas and it was really good - even for...

    Bottle Directly from Grainfather?

I'd have to agree with Gspot...my biggest concern would be the simplicity and cleanliness issues...not too concerned about introducing oxygen as I've frequently (and know commercial operators) that use mini jet and super jet plate filters to cold filter beers. I've never had any oxidation issues...

    Grainfather!!

Thanks for the info, gspot. I figured it was something like what you said. I do know how to run the numbers without software lol. And I was thinking - and agreeing - that it's nice to know but really much ado about nothing. Have a great day!

    Grainfather!!

I'm an experienced brewer but new to all grain and using the Grainfather. I hear a lot of talk about efficiency and was wondering as to what it is measuring and how to go about it. I did a light ale recipe that hit the low end of the target SG coming out of the mash eg. The range was 1042-1046...

Does Grainfather have an integrated Fermentor?

They do make a matching fermentor out of the same 304 Stainless. Looks like a stripped Grainfather or T500 Still Spirits boiler - which of course is what it is. I have it and it does double duty as my HLT...with an added Allied Premier 1000W heatstick. If I could've gotten their HLT, I would've...

    Grainfather!!

I believe that's what we refer to as a hose or gear clamp.

    Grainfather!!

I ran my first brew on a 15 amp breaker and everything went off without a hitch. I added a Yellowjacket 15 amp GFI to the Grainfather cord. I also used an Allied Precision 1000W heatstick on the bottom plug to heat my spargewater. Again, no issues whatsoever. Both units performed like champions.

    Grainfather electric all-grain brewing tips

Fotofisher, I want to thank you for all your tips, videos and info sharing. I recently purchased a Grainfather here in Canada (yes we run on 110-120V too) and was able to "pimp up" my unit and do lots of reconnaissance. The timer was a great idea, although I went with a rugged, waterproof Taylor...

Forgot to add apple cider flavoring

It won't make a difference, as I've added at both primary and secondary stages without any noticeable differences.

Flip cap bottles (grolsch) NEVER AGAIN!!!

Oh I see...you were referring to aftermarket swing tops...now I got ya!

Flip cap bottles (grolsch) NEVER AGAIN!!!

Still somewhat puzzled...I have used the old school rubber Grolsch 473's from the '80's and the 450 ml Grolsch from the 2000's (plastic) and just pull the gaskets off, sanitize them and away we go...mind you I do get rid of the bottled product fairly quickly, so I'll have to monitor the swings...

Flip cap bottles (grolsch) NEVER AGAIN!!!

I've used Grolsch bottles for decades without a hitch...I also crown cap 22 oz. brown bombers and keg full size and half Cornies. Had more issues with kegs than I've ever had with Grolsch swing tops...so something you're doing is wrong (like overcarbing) or the bottles you're using aren't the...

    Mangroves Jack strawberry and pear

PS - adding the flavour during fermentation didn't change a thing I'm thinking. And leaving it on gas now for a few weeks has absolutely made this wonderful stuff! I'm hoping the sparkling pear cider turns out as good as one I made 25 years ago in a U Brew. I'm thinking it's going to be great!

    Mangroves Jack strawberry and pear

It turned out pretty good. I added 2g of the sweetener - about half the pack - and found it just about right. I did keg half and have yet to try the bottles. I'll let them condition for a few weeks yet. It was good enough that I'm going to try the pear one next.
