    Gelatin Procedures for Clearing Beer

I know you keg guys can't answer this but have any of you ever had or, heard of an issue with poor bottle carbonation as a result of good clarification via cold crashing and gelatin?

    Pump for immersion chiller

I'm using a Fountain pump running about 300 GPH. I made up a simple copper pipe manifold which allows me to select water from the tap or water from the pump. I use tap water to get down to about 100F then which to the pump. The trick here is I put the pump in my 48 gal MLT picnic cooler to...

    Cold Crashing and Bottle Carbonation

I've been cold crashing my brews for a while now. I do this in conjunction with using gelatin and have been tweaking the process to maximize the clearing effect. My recent beers have been exceptionally clear and it is obvious the routine is doing what it's supposed to. I've not been...

Problem with Chemistry between pH and TA

My Red Zinfandel has just completed fermentation and I find the pH at 3.7 and the total Acidity at 10. Both of these are higher than desired. How can I lower my pH and TA at the same time? Calcium Carbonate will lower the TA but raise the pH. Tartaric acid will lower the pH but raise the...

    pH Issue

I've just finished fermentation of my Red Zinfandel and have a problem. My pH is around 3.7 and should be less than 3.5. But I can't add Tartaric Acid because my TA is way high at 9.5 - 10.0. How do I lower the pH without raising the TA?

    Biofine vs Isinglass vs Gelatin

I've only used the gelatin so I can't vote on the subject since I know nothing of the other products. Also, gelatin works great. Curious about how others view the other compounds....

    BeerSmith Basic Question

That's it. Thanks. I had been opening it with a single click and found I was dead in the water at that point. Appreciate the help...

    BeerSmith Basic Question

I'm new to this software and have just begin to attempt to learn how to use it. I've created and saved a recipe which was rather straight forward and simple but I cannot for the life of me find how you modify an existing recipe. I want to change my boil time on the recipe I created and I...

    Hop Bag Benefits?

I've been trying to decide if hop bags actually accomplish much when used with pellet hops. It seems to me the only material they hold back is the heavy stuff which would probably settle out quickly anyway. What are your experiences and observations?

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I've made three batches of this brew. No hint of bread with any. Would be suspect of your yeast but thats just my guess.

    65lbs Organic Blueberries....

How does this kill the wild yeast but permit the chosen yeast to thrive and ferment?

Help with move to 10 gallon system?

Get yourself a small fountain submersible pump. Clean your mash tun (great if picnic cooler) just prior to flameout and put about three 10lb bags of ice in it. Fill it up with water. Put the pump in the bottom and connect a hose to the pump which will connect quickly to your IC inlet...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Most folks use corn sugar unless there's a specific reason not to. DME works fine, is a tad slower to carbonate, and leaves a krausen ring around the top in the bottle. I asked this same question a couple of years back. Never did receive a good reason for using DME which doesn't mean there...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I'm on my third batch and this has been the best of my brews by far. I'm also experimenting with less hops in my current effort. Good to hear someone else has given this a shot and is pleased with the outcome.

    Hose Labeling

I know I can't be the only guy with this problem. It's my brew hoses. You know, the ones that seem to breed like rats. So I go to get the MLT drain hose and it looks like half of the others. I end up sorting through the various pieces to find the right diameter and length only to give up...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Without a doubt, it's been my favorite brew from the 15 or so beers I've made. They've all been good but this one stands out from the others. Cheers BierMuncher. Job well done! :rockin:

    Vacuum Degassing

I tried this for the first time this weekend. Utilized a small pump I had and adjusted the vacuum for 22 " hg. I got fairly good results initially. My Merlot had been in the secondary for about five weeks and it took about 3 minutes for the bubbles to reside. I then added the normal...
