    What my wife says

I have a similar situation. My wife straight up told me "don't talk to me about beer", to which I replied "then what am I going to talk about?". It's easy to shrug it off and segment yourself from all of her stuff, but I find balance is key. I spend time watching movies I don't really care for...

    Commercial SMaSH?

The new Albion ale that was just rereleased is, if I remember the interview correctly.

My brother got a DUI. I need advice from those with "experience"...

My brother got a DUI. He lives in Texas. Don't know what he blew but he hit a parked car and when the cop asked him how much he had to drink, he said "a lot, sir", so at least he was honest, and respectful. He ended up getting a lawyer, the court stuff went on for over a year, ending up in...

    Austin home brew

Austin homebrew is awesome. I've not used northern brewer or any other place, but I really don't need to. Ahb has everything and it's priced well and the staff there is great. I've taken an all grain class there also which was awesome. I recommend them to everyone that asks where to get brew...

How do you come up with names?

I name everything something stupid to myself and my friends, or anyone that drinks them. They are usually puns or play on words. My second batch was an Oktoberfest that was ready the first week of November that I called "procrastinate", my third batch was a roggenbier called Third Rye Blind, I...

Any beers you changed your mind on since you started homebrewing?

I have to agree that one thing I notice and appreciate more is a delicate beer that is balanced. Very hard to do ad hard to come by. There's a lot of craft beer out there that is great and full of powerful flavors and aromas, but I really like a well balanced beer that has nothing to hide...

How to convince the wife i need a freezer

I might be able to put it on the back patio, but I'd be concerned about the Texas heat in the summer, it gets really hot. Of course, if I had a garage or a shed this would not be an issue. I am serious about brewing and the last few batches I used a swamp cooler quite effectively, producing some...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm actually proud if myself! On Sunday I brewed a pale ale and brown ale, both partial mash, while bottling a batch of IPA and stout, all 5 gallons. I started at 630 am and was done by 130 pm. I thought it was pretty good.

Any beers you changed your mind on since you started homebrewing?

I'm suddenly interested in sours. I don't know of any other than a few that I've had from jester king. It's a new experience to me, any that you can recommend?

How to convince the wife i need a freezer

Ahahahaaa! You guys are hilarious. I do like the responses that just say get it and deal with it after, I think that may be the best idea. I was talking to her dad today and he said he bring me one when one became available so it seemed like the rules may have changed slightly.

How to convince the wife i need a freezer

I don't think the "happy" time thing is going to work. If I phrased it that way, it would be a win win situation for her. I'm not really one for ultimatums. I'm leaning toward getting one and getting a nice table cloth to drape over it, a sort of clever disguise, with jewels and sequins. That...

Any beers you changed your mind on since you started homebrewing?

Totally agree revvy, I believe there is a time for any beer. I love coming in from mowing the lawn in june and cracking an almost frozen miller or coors. It's just as rewarding as a Newcastle on my porch on a cool fall night, or a nice and bright IPA in spring time with some spicy salsa. It's...

How to convince the wife i need a freezer

Proper place is debatable. It would go in the kitchen for now, don't have a garage. I've mentioned using a friends house to store it, and that may work, but I'd rather have it here to monitor it. I'm thinking hold off but keep mentioning it until I just get it in here one day and fill it with...

Any beers you changed your mind on since you started homebrewing?

I see beer very differently now that I have a small idea of what goes into making it, time, effort, creativity, etc. are there any beers that you initially snubbed that you have gone back to and had a eureka moment with? My two big ones are no real surprise: dfh 60 minute and stone levitation...

How to convince the wife i need a freezer

See, that's exactly what I am afraid of. We already have one freezer with pizza and ice cream and a couple of turkeys from who knows when. She told me "why don't you just put the beer in this freezer we have?", and I just looked at her. She's cool with the brewing, but not really about me...

How to convince the wife i need a freezer

Ironically, whenever I want to smooth things over or get my wife in a good mood for whatever reason, the thing that works best is ice cream. Go figure.

How to convince the wife i need a freezer

Yeah, I started making ciders just to get her interested in my brewing and sort of let her have a place in my hobby, but convincing a pregnant woman that you need more appliances to make alcohol is a difficult sell. Maybe my timing is a little off. Although she might be swayed by your raspberry...

    Home-brew-off

That sounds really cool! I'd say the style you pick should have some type if reflection to the style of the brewery. A brewery here in town had a recipe contest recently, the brewery is pretty progressive, they have their tried and true recipes, but they venture out and try all kinds of...

How to convince the wife i need a freezer

I've been brewing since August, just started partial mashing and, being in Texas, have had moderate success with temp control. It's been cool lately, 65 in the house, and the last three beers have been great, and it's got me thinking how much better my beers could get if I had a better way to...
