This can't be done yet ... can it?

On 3-22 I started a batch of chocolate mead and right now it seems to have stopped. It was bubbling furiously for days when I started it. 16 lbs of honey 32 ozs of nesquik 5 tsp acid blend 5 tsp yeast nutrient Lalvin EC-1118 Enough water to fill the 6 gallon carboy. OG was 1.110...

Trying out a GF Kit ....

Tasted the kit batch this past weekend .... it is a different flavor than my first attempy. It is OK .... better than what we had bought in the stores - but I liked the first batch I made better. The kit said the carbonation would only take about 10 days but it seems a little light on the...

    Gluten Free American Brown Ale

The initial impression from the first homebrew, which was lcasanova's recipe, was "smooth". it had none of the bite associated with beer. It seemed odd to me as it was both my first homebrew and my first GF attempt. The more I had of it though, the more I became hooked on the flavor. The kit I...

Trying out a GF Kit ....

My "brew closet" in the basement had gotten down to about 65 earlier this winter so I put a small space heater in there and try to keep it about 70 - 75. Since I have done this I had two 5 gallon carboys of wine and mead suddenly pick up and then finish out and are now ready to bottle. So, I...

    Our Chocolate Mead Experiment

I have an important question .... we have looked and looked for Nesquik cocoa milk mix but can only find Nesqik "chocolate flavored drink mix". Is this considered the same thing? Or am I just not looking in the right places?

is there a Gluten free beer kit available

Having commercially available gluten free beer is not really a beneficial thing ... my wife and I have at least 4 different brands we could choose from. We have tried them all and can assure you that they are all overpriced (about twice the cost of a regular beer) and *very* disappointing to...

Crazy mead test batches - recipes?

Anyone ever try making a horseradish mead? That seems particularly "strange". BTW .... my SWMBO *loves* horseradish, so let me know what you find out .... :-)

is there a Gluten free beer kit available

I am currently working on this one ... http://www.homebrewers.com/product/ALP1050/Gluten-Free-Honey-Ale-Beer-Kit.html Racked it tonight and it is smelling great and tasting rather promising ....

Trying out a GF Kit ....

The hops included were 1 oz of Mt. Hood pellet hops for bittering and 1 oz of Hallertau pellet hops for finishing. I am not really a hoppy beer person, but my first batch (as scrumptious as it was) was too smooth to really taste like beer (not that it detracted from the addictiveness of...

Planning out my first mead...advice please?

Our personal favorite is Chaucers mead ..... available at 2 out of 3 of our local liquor stores. The 3rd store only offers ones that we have tried and do not care for ....

Trying out a GF Kit ....

The yeast nutrient and irish moss were not included in the kit but were suggested by someone who works there ... I had to call them about something and their "gluten free guy" was VERY helpful. I used Fermax yeast nutrient ... I have a bottle on hand from my local HBS. The yeast is gluten free...

Planning out my first mead...advice please?

Honey really does not need to be pasteurized ..... there are 2 very strong schools of thought on this. Also, when you cook the honey you reduce the flavor potential of the mead. Also ... if you add the honey to 1 gallon of water ... the result plus the 5 gallons you will have in the carboy will...

My first batch is finally in bottles!

On last taste before bottling ... the burning edge was fading away nicely, and for the first time I was noticing an after taste of honey very faint on your tongue about a minute after tasting .... I figure any apple flavor will come out as it matures ....

My first batch is finally in bottles!

I am storing the wines on their side because everything I had read say that the wine needs to remain in contact with the cork to prevent it from drying out.

Trying out a GF Kit ....

The only modifications we made were actually suggested by the distributor .... that was the addition of irish moss and yeast nutrient. Other than that I just want to see what it turns out like. If I like it I can always try duping the kit on my own ... the cost was more than the sum of the...

My first batch is finally in bottles!

Thanks .... found them at a local liqueur store and was given one by the owner which I used to base mine on. I have since found that liqueur stores regularly throw those boxes away ... I am trying to hook up with a couple of the local ones so I do not need to build more. :)

My first batch is finally in bottles!

It started out as just a simple Sweet Mead .... but one day at the public market they were sampling out cider made with Honey-crisp apples (the best apples on earth) and we decided that a gallon of that had to be added .... so, the 6 gallon batch in the carboy included 1 gallon of raw...

Trying out a GF Kit ....

My wife and I really liked the way our first batch turned out but we decided to try a kit for the next batch. We only found 2 GF kits online ... both from the same place. This is the one we are trying: http://www.homebrewers.com/product/ALP1050/Gluten-Free-Honey-Ale-Beer-Kit.html I want to...

My first batch is finally in bottles!

This is my first batch! Started last July ...... Cannot wait to try this out! Hope to have enough patience to wait until Thanksgiving ...... These boxes were cool, but what a pain to build without a shop!
