Experimental Beer Slim's Graham Cracker Ale 2.0

Amazing that it would bring out that much flavor with just two beans? I'm making a stout so I'm thinking I might be ok.

    2nd brew - questions

Spices are best at flame out or during a secondary phase. Boiling spices for long periods can give some undesired flavors. I've added mine at flame out or at secondary with very good results. Speaking of which my pumpkin will be ready to bottle in a another 2 weeks.

First time dry hopping with whole leaf...

I use whole hops 90% of the time. They don't sink and just rest on the top. I have never had a problem syphoning with whole leaf.

    Adding juice to my HB

For a subtle hint juice what ever fruit say 4 limes or two oranges and add it at flame out. For more flavor add it to secondary.

    OG too high, extract brewing

    Excuse my bad iPhone typing.

    OG too high, extract brewing

Half in none really. But on my IPAs stouts I lose about a half gallon. Cream ales and lighter beers I don't lose much. But this was an example for the OP. say he he filled shy of five gallons and had 1/2 to 1/4 trub loss. Could boost his ABV.

    OG too high, extract brewing

it will water out or lower your AVB if you miscalculate and add more water than desired..i may have done this once or twice but ive gotten good at it through out the years
  13. jonnyp1980

    OG too high, extract brewing

I think he means using top off water and adding more water to account for trub which is what I do instead of straining the trub.

    OG too high, extract brewing

Agreed. Although I have made quite a mess with straining so I said F it and just dumped it in. :)

    Pumpkin ale advise

I will be transferring the pumpkin to secondary this fri. not sure if I will add anything until I taste it...lot of trub and a krausen that's not dropping anytime soon it seems. beer looks and smells great though

    Brewers Best Conditioning Tablets

I tend to stay away from tabs cause I had the same problem. Priming sugar is best imo

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you're constantly changing fermenting rooms cause the swamp cooler is making it stink.
