    La Fin Du Monde Clone?

I'm thinking about making this one soon. I am wondering if anyone knows how the candy sugar should be done? Should I make a light, amber, or darker syrup? I was thinking either Light or light amber (see this thread https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/20-lb-sugar-jar-yeast-nutrient-114837/) Have...

American Amber Ale Bottle Rocket American Red

Just cracked the first bottle of this one today, and it was great. I made quite a few adjustments, as I mentioned above, but since then I've found another HBS that carries the right hops, so I'll have to try it again soon and follow the recipe. It's quite an interesting and delicious beer...

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

Oh, that could be! I actually recall the guy at the Home Brew store talking to someone last week about having to adjust the mill for his rye, which we did not do for my grain. Never even thought about that. Oh well, whatever the cause, what's done is done. This beer is super active. It's like...

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

Well, I didn't manage to hit the target OG. Its at 1.06 at 95f, so about 1.065. I'm not sure why, but I did notice that my mash, which started at 154, had cooled to 145 over the hour. Seems like the cooler isn't holding the temperature up, so maybe that explains it. I still think it'll be a...

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

Excellent. Thank you for the recipe, it looks and smells great so far. This is my first IPA, and first time making a yeast starter, and I think it'll be a good one. Cheers

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

Looks like Denny's yeast is 1450, not 2450? I hope so, or I got the wrong yeast!

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Ginger Lemongrass Wheat

Sounds interesting. I'll bookmark it for later.

American Amber Ale Caramel Amber Ale

That is a good idea. I've never tested my water before. I guess I never bothered because I'm in a rental, and don't plan to be here much longer. I could boil chinook for less time, but I find the overall flavour of it somewhat unappealing, like the white pith of a grapefruit. I don't mind...

American Amber Ale Caramel Amber Ale

Excellent. Nugget, Willamette, and Perle are all available at my LHBS, and I have some left over Willamette from my last batch. So maybe I'll do a mix of two of them for this one. Thanks for the reply.

American Amber Ale Caramel Amber Ale

I just brewed another beer with the Chinook hops, and found it intensely bitter with only .5 ounces for 60 min, and .5 dry hopped. It made it taste more like an IPA, with an incredibly bitter bite that's somewhat leveled out with a sharp grapefruit finish. If I wanted something a little less...

American Amber Ale Bottle Rocket American Red

started a batch of this today, and it looks great. The hobby beer store I frequent didn't have the Carafa II, so I replaced it with the closest thing they had, which we thought would be a chocolate malt. Probably because of that it seems quite a bit darker. I guess this one is an American...

Imperial Stout Russian Unorthodox Imperial Stout

Hello I just started a Half Batch of this one, but my original gravity is down at about 1.055 or so. Does anyone know what I might have done wrong to get such a low OG?

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

I just cracked my first bottle of this, and it's unreal. It's so smooth, and has rootbeer notes along with a very pleasant aroma. I used over half a bottle of Woodford Reserve Bourbon, which already had a vanilla bean in it, and two vanilla beans in the beer. I will definitely be making this...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

Thanks for all the replies. The beer looks, smells, and already tastes amazing.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

yeah, I did a second reading, and it's around 1.020. That doesn't really tell me if it's still active though, does it? It just confirms that it had been active while in the primary. Can I pitch more yeast? Will that have adverse effects? Edit: Just found some great info on this site, re...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

I've just been reading on these forums that some say racking the beer is completely unnecessary. I don't want to rehash that debate, but would this beer be a candidate for that technique?

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

Hmm. Didn't take gravity readings. Never do. So far so good, but perhaps I should start. I typically rack after 4-7 days. I thought that was typical? Is it not? It looked ready, with such a large yeast cake and not much visible activity (but I guess that's what the SG is for).

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

Hello I just racked a batch of this into a secondary, onto some vanilla beans, but there are a couple issues that I'm hoping someone can help me with. Firstly, I followed the recipe for mash and sparge water, but I ended with just under 5 gallons of wort. Is it okay to just add some (boiled...

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

Just popped the first bottle of a batch of this, and it's probably the best beer I've made. (Sure, it's only my fifth batch of beer, but still). Thanks for the recipe.
