I use a unique technique and I think it works, but...

Yeah, I guess I should just keep doing what I've been doing. I just built a keezer and started kegging rather than bottling my beers, and all the research I put into learning to build it and hook up c02 tanks and everything got me thinking more about the brewing process as well, how I could...

I use a unique technique and I think it works, but...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure what I've been making is beer. It looks, smells, and tastes like it. Really what I want to know is if there's way to preempt any errors so I don't end up wasting a whole batch. Or so I could improve my brews.

I use a unique technique and I think it works, but...

So, I've been brewing in a somewhat unique way, and so far it seems to work. But I am wondering if others have brewed in similar ways, and if there are concerns to look out for, or ways to improve my brews. Here's what I do: I do not have a cool mashtun anymore, and I have been doing my mash...

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

I started a batch just three days ago, and it's gone from 1.65 down to 1.005 already. That's probably the fastest fermentation I've experienced, so I hope it's alright. The Temp is controlled so it's not that. Anyway, I might rack into a secondary tonight and let it condition for a week or so...

American Pale Ale Da Yooper's House Pale Ale

Thanks, Jwin. I appreciate the response.

Sorachi Ace Hops - What have you done?

I'm planning on making a batch of simple pale ale with half an ounce of chinook or centenial for a slight bittering, then I'm going to divide it into four small 1.25 gallon batches for the second half of the boil, each with half an ounce of a different flavouring hops, to see if I can tell the...

American Pale Ale Da Yooper's House Pale Ale

Thank you for the reply (and to the previous post). I think I will try using a proper bag. I was going to a while back, and I ordered some online, but they ended up being too small (which is why I now use them to just cover the false bottom). I also live in a city where the water is pretty...

American Pale Ale Da Yooper's House Pale Ale

I started a batch of this last night. I didn't quite hit my OG, but got to 1.05, which is good enough for me. I am wondering about how to increase my efficiency, though, with the system I have right now. I'm in a small place, so I don't have much room for a proper mash / lauter tun. What I am...

Belgian Blond Ale SWMBO Slayer - Belgian Blonde

I'm trying this one today with WYeast 3068 (German Weihenstephan Weizen). I think I'll add a 15 min .5 ounce hop addition, as well, or a dry hop. Probably with Citra, or more Williamette. Now that I've been brewing a little while, and know my own tastes it better, it seems like it's almost a...

    Kölsch Bee Cave Brewery Kölsch

I just cracked the first of a batch, and I found it not dry at all. Actually, almost sickly sweet. I followed the recipe directly, and the gravity was below 1.01when I bottled, so I don't know how it is so different than the description.

    Kölsch Bee Cave Brewery Kölsch

Yeah, I eventually saw the 90min boil comment as well. I just bottled this, and while the sample tasted a little sweet to me (even though my FG is 1.006), I think it will be quite good once carbonated.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

So, last time I made this, I just happened to have two vanilla beans sitting in a bottle of Woodford Reserve, so I used that, and it was delicious. After about 5 months, though, the flavours really mellowed out, and it was more like a typical (although very nice) porter. This time, I have...

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

Everyone loves beer images right? We made labels for this one, but went with the name 'Seven SamuRye' I bottled this last weekend. I had missed my OG (1.065) but it went all the way down to 1.005, so it's still about 7.5%. Using Columbus and Hallertauer Hops it's not overpoweringly bitter...

    Low FG for Saison

I just made a Saison with an OG of 1.074 and checked it today (4 weeks later) and it's down to 1.000. Insanely strong beer, but I've read it's expected for this style. The weird thing is that it's still active, which is starting to worry me. There's visible activity in the airlock, and it...

    Kölsch Bee Cave Brewery Kölsch

Looks good, Thanks for the recipe I just wanted to point out that the recipe says boil time 60 minutes, then in the description you say to boil for 90. Also, With a 90 minute boil my mash calculator is calling for a 6 gallon sparge for a 5.5 gallon batch, which seems maybe a little extreme?

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Well, I missed my OG. I got 1.044 after adjusted for temperature, with 5 gallons of wort. I've been shooting low for the last half a dozen batches now. :/

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Hey There, I'm just wondering if you think it's worth while using irish moss in this to clear it? Cheers.

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

I went for it, as well. It was great last time, but I always like a little more hops flavour in my beer.

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

I just started my second batch of this one. It's the first beer that I've made a second time in my year of AG brewing. They didn't have the 1335 yeast, so I went with the London III (wyeast 1318). I hope it works as well. Have you tried doing only one ounce for 60 and one for 30? Would the...

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

Racked this one today, and it looks great. I overshot the sparge water (explains my low grav) so there's 5.5 gallons and a glass, which I'm just drinking as it. It's delicious. :mug: I might make labels for this one, calling it "The Wrath of Conn" :)
