From Power Cord to What in the Control Panel?

I'm working off my dryer outlet, so 30A, 220V. I'll be using two 5500W elements, one in the HLT and one in the BK. I'll have one PID, one SSR, and will more than likely use three contactors (one for on/off switch, and one for each element). Also, I'll have two pumps. So, the question is...

From Power Cord to What in the Control Panel?

Okay, I'm confused on a major part of the control panel build. I'll be hard wiring a Xerox cord - the one with GFI built into it - to my control panel, so from dryer outlet to control panel. Once to the control panel, do the four wires hook up first to terminal strips/blocks and then from...

Help me understand a terminal strip/block

Okay, but why in P-J's diagrams does it look like the incoming wires, from the power source, are attached to terminal blocks and then on to various components? If to a contactor first, how do all four wires hook up to the contactor?

Help me understand a terminal strip/block

Okay, all this is helpful. So now my next question: I have one of those Xerox cords with GFI attached on the cord. I'll be running this from my dryer outlet to my control panel. I don't need to hook up to the control panel by way of a plug (so female receptacle on the end of the cord to male...

Help me understand a terminal strip/block

I think I'm understanding a bit better. So, it seems like it may make sense to buy something that has one input with, say, four outputs. Is there a good reason not to do that? As for your diagrams, P-J, which terminal blocks and the like do you recommend, as I'll be following one of your...

Help me understand a terminal strip/block

So after searching for info on terminal strips/blocks, I still have some questions. I'll be using one of P-J's wiring diagrams and as far as I can tell, the power source in wires go to terminal blocks and then from there are wired to plugs, pumps, etc. So, for example, if one of the hot wires...

How critical is the hole size for the element?

I'm curious as to how critical is the hole size for the element on the kettle and in the 2-gang box enclosure. I'm following Kal's plans, and his Greenlee punch gives a 1.25" hole exactly. I have a Greenlee conduit punch, which gives almost a 1.25" hole, but not as exactly as the "other" (I...

Options for Power to the Panel and Receptacles and Plugs

Okay, that helps. I could hare wire power coming into the panel from the dryer outlet with the Xerox cord and make the elements plug ins (which are 5500 elements). Anybody know of a good (inexpensive) source for the plugs and receptacles for the elements? TC

Options for Power to the Panel and Receptacles and Plugs

I have a couple of questions having to do with getting power to my panel. First, I have one of the cords that was for Xerox copiers (the one Kal references; four prong, GFI, etc.). Can't this just be hard wired to the panel? So, there wouldn't be a need to put a flanged plug on the bottom...

    P-J Diagram Help

Again, P-J, this is helpful - and the comment about no need for a second SSR. So, if I understand, the only reason for a second SSR would be for having two circuits (say two elements) on at the same time. Is that correct? TC

    P-J Diagram Help

Does anybody know of a P-J diagram that has Two 5500w elements (HLT and BK) One PID (toggle back and forth to HLT and BK) Two SSRs Two contactors Two pumps And then the switches, etc. Anybody? I've been searching the diagrams and found some that are pretty close, but I don't...

Help with eHerms - 240v/5500w elements

Thanks! So what' the best way to wire all this together? Two 5500 elements Two SSRs Two contactors One PID (I'll probably just stick with one PID and use a toggle to control either 5500 element) Two pumps Thanks again.

Help with eHerms - 240v/5500w elements

Hey all, I collected a few diagrams that P-J put together - excellent! But, I still have a few questions. Here's what I'll be putting together: Two 5500 elements (HLT and BK) One PID (toggle back and forth between HLT and BK) Two Pumps Questions: Do I need one SSR or two? Do I...

    Which P-J Diagram?

I'm finding a lot of P-J's diagrams, but I'm not sure which one I need for just the basics. Here's what I'll be running. 240 (dryer outlet) Two 5500 elements (HLT and BK) One PID (Auburn) Two Pumps I'm looking for the most basic wiring for my needs. So, which P-J diagram do you...
