    Ferment temp

Not to be a downer but I can't stand this town. Yes, I am very happy the Art Fair is over. Wanna buy my house? It is walking distance to Main St on the west side.

    Ferment temp

I have a Brewer's Best Summer Ale kit that says to ferment at temps between 64-72 degrees. If my ferment room is at 75 degrees during this heat wave, is it ok to ferment in? I'm reading on this forum that people have fermented at temps as high as 80 degrees.

So how long should it really take?

I have consumed my first batch of IPA (maestro series). It was fantastic. It was better when it went past the times specified in the directions for aging in the bottle. After reading all the posts about how long members leave beer in the primary and secondary I was shocked. The directions...

    Oxyclean contamination?

Yeah, five gallon batch. I'm letting it sit in bottles for another two weeks at least. The first batch I made was an IPA and I found it got better the longer it sat in bottles. So I only chilled a couple at a time until they performed well. I will let this batch sit longer than my first until...

    Oxyclean contamination?

Racked my American light to the bottling bucket with the priming sugar solution. I had a strainer sitting on top of a three gallon bucket that I was using to catch drips from washing bottle washers in oxy earlier that day. I was going to flip the bucket upside down and use it as a platform for...

Plate Chiller not getting it done

So I guess I'm privileged to have a fridge with an ice maker and a frost free chest freezer that holds my bulk deer kill and bulk costco purchases. I am only chilling 5 gallon batches but plan ahead for my brew date and put my ice machine to work by filling the garbage bag in my chest freezer...

Keggle cut not going so well ?

    That is a cutting disc.

Keggle cut not going so well ?

+1. That is an excellent solution. :rockin:

Keggle cut not going so well ?

Possible, unless the windings melted down and caused a hi pot or dead short. If the rotating components were binding, the motor was overheating. The motor would have to have a thermal protection system to protect this type of failure. If the makita was still under warrantee, I would return...

Keggle cut not going so well ?

I suspect that you have clamped the body of the grinder causing undo stress on the electric internals. Another possibility is that you have effectively blocked the fan vents that cool the motor during operation. The body is only meant to handle the clamping pressure of human hands. Remember...

SWMBO moving in and so it begins

Yeah, I understand. Originally it was probably a public service poster that tried to reveal the horrors of abuse. I understand. I still found humor since every time I see the motivational poster, I'm being fed a joke. Perhaps the scenario really hits home for some members.

    This sucks 1st time bottling

Good point. But I could see having a hundred unused crowns and then not having a replacement gasket.

    This sucks 1st time bottling

PBW is pricey compared to the bucket of oxy. I ran out of PBW and decided to try oxy. I thought PBW was a sanitized as well.

    This sucks 1st time bottling

My first experience with oxyclean was amazing. Last night I took 50 old, stinky and moldy grolsch bottles that still had labels on them and soaked them in a 25 gallon rubbermaid container. This afternoon i found that the labels had fallen off and were on the bottom of the bin. Mold and caked on...

Whatever.... It was a joke. A very funny joke.

    This sucks 1st time bottling

I'm surprised that the drain doesn't clog with this method. I've had to replace the grinders in my dishwashers due to clogging issues. Then again my tenants won't care about how they treat appliances until they own them and have to pay to fix them.

    This sucks 1st time bottling

There is no obsession, they are free and easy to cap. My beer ages in a dark temperature controlled room so color of the glass doesn't matter. I have many cases of 12 oz brown bottles that need to be crimp capped that I may never use. My friend gave up on home brewing and gave them to me...

    This sucks 1st time bottling

I just fit 50 grolsch bottles in a cheap 25 gallon rubbermaid bin. Is two scoops of oxyclean enough? Will it get the moldy stuff cleaned? After reading this thread I thought I would try it.
