Most start with a Mr Beer kit and move up relatively quick, no problem with that. I also do not see why you can't do half batches with the Mr Beer equipment...

Forgot another question. Would you secondary this or just leave in primary for 4 weeks. Would a stout be worth a secondary or just leave in primary for the full duration of fermenting.

Yeah, 1-2 hrs is no problem. I've done it. I also made the mistake of leaving my vinyl tubing in a bucket of Star San for 2 weeks. It was not good. The tubing was really soft, sloughing off in my hands and the Star San was really milk white. Tossed the batch and tubing. At the bottom of the...
