DIY still column for bayou 30qt

I've purchased in the past SS from China that rusted in a few months of use. I try to buy as little as I can from China. If I have no choice the I buy it. But w/clothes I check labels and buy from USA or other nations if can. How about Aleave? Did you know it's made in China? I wouldn't...

DIY still column for bayou 30qt

My fear would be that for 11$ you are getting Chinese SS and I doubt it's life. I try to stay away from ANYTHING made in China, but then I'm a political nut. LOL

Labels for Six Beers I Contributed for an Event

I bottle everything and label them all. That way I can keep track and it looks good when friends come over. LOL that American Imperial Stout brewed last year I sent two off to a contest. Should hear about them in a month.

Labels for Six Beers I Contributed for an Event

Pretty Fancy, but labels put on bottles after the contest I'd guess as they have the medal mentions. Here we must submit bottles w/o any kind of label. I do simple ones using online software from Avery on 2" x 4" labels.

    Why am I doing this?

Might be an idea. But remember they also have shipping costs but since they buy in bulk might work.

    Smoky IPA

In late January I brewed a small (2g) batch of a Smoky IPA using 2 1/2 lbs of a Mesquite smoked grain and 2 1/4 lbs of Pale Ale Malt as the base. Checked it today and I believe it's done as the SG is 1.019 which is what BeerSmith predicted. Wow the Smokey flavor really came thru. Perhaps to...

    Root Beer *hard*

I was refering to full capped bottles. LOL

    Crushing grain without a mill

You could do 3 lbs in a blender in about 4 min. I do 2 g patches and often d as much as 6 lbs in my blender. Never takes more than 5 min and I'm producing almost flour as I BIAB.

    Root Beer *hard*

I plan to make some hard Root beer. I saw a recipe that called for pasteurizing the bottles. Do I need to and how do I do it?

    Why am I doing this?

I have switched from 2 row to Pale Ale Malt. Gives the beer a bit more maltyness and flavor. Cost is about $1.80/lb here. 50 lbs might cut cost to about $1.60/lb.

    Why am I doing this?

Can but shipping still kills us here. Shipping usually wipes out anything saved by buying online. I will buy a 50 lb bag of my main US grain soon. Will save a few bucks.

    Adjusting propane burner

The way I understand burners is you want as blue a flame as you can get. Adjust air intake till you reach that point. Get a thermometer w/a probe you can insert into the tank or clip on the rim. I set the thermo to alarm at 200*. I open the gas flow all the way and wait. When the alarm goes...

    BeerSmith upgrade

Big Mahalo guys. I don't do mead or cider so I'll just stick w/what I have. It works great for my ales.

    BeerSmith upgrade

I've been using BS=2 for a year or so. Well since it came out. Is there any reason to upgrade to #3?

    Why am I doing this?

No heating or cooling bills. No heater or AC. But sometimes the trade winds stop blowing in the summer and it can get over 95 in the house w/all the windows open. Electricity about $170 a month Water about $220 a month, but I'm watering two acres of palms and other trees Land Tax only about...

    Why am I doing this?

Steep is saying it nicely. LOL The price of living in PARADISE. Guess I'll brew more American Beers. I can do any British style using American grains and they would most likely taste just about the same.

    Why am I doing this?

Yup, they get "dated" beer quite often. You know that stuff ain't gonna spoil in a month or two. Check out the picture.

    Why am I doing this?

Living here in Hawai`i is EXPENSIVE in every way you can think of. All grain at the only Home Brew shop on O`ahu is $3/lb except plane old 2 Row which is $1.70/lb and Pale Ale Malt which is $1.80/lb. I like to brew British ales w/as true British products as I can. So last week I planed an...

    Gearing Down

I've been doing 2 gallon batches for years. I get about 3 six packs. Mash in a 5 gal collman cooler, boil in a 6 gal SS pot on a propane burner. Ferment in 2 gal paint buckets from HD. Nothing to heavy to lift, I'm now 75.
  20. C-Rider

BIAB in a cooler? What’s your process?

    No need to mash out.
