    Very First Beer - Advice

Oh, that is a brilliant piece of software! I'll be using that constantly. I'll just try and pair up the right flavors, and we should be right on track. Edit: After looking at the recipe calculator and seeing as you think this recipe looks good, I'm on board with this recipe with 8 ounce...

    Braggot Advice

So, this second attempt at a braggot is quickly becoming my first real beer attempt. I posted some questions on malt in the beginner beer section, and got some more great advice. Then I ordered a bunch of ingredients, so here's a look at a rough plan for everything: 6 Pound Amber DME 8 Ounce...

    Very First Beer - Advice

Okay, so it seems like you guys are keeping me from screwing up my first batch, which is awesome! Much appreciated. So I got a few more ingredients to play with from the LHBS. Again, my goal is a dark brown or porter type beer, so here's the revised plan: 6 Pound Amber DME 8 Ounce Chocolate...

    Very First Beer - Advice

Wow guys! Thanks for all the responses and advice. First, buzzerj, I would love to know what calculator you're using to get these results, I think it would be very useful to me. From what I'm hearing about my plan, it sounds like there are no major flaws and that it would work the way I have it...

    Very First Beer - Advice

I've been making wine for about two years now, and decided it's about time to give this a try. Like I said, brand new here, so please forgive me for any dumb mistakes I make :cross:. 5.5 Gallon Total Volume - For Racking Purposes -6 Pound Amber Dry Malt Extract -1 Pound Caramel 120L -8 Ounce...

    Braggot Advice

Great read! Thanks for pointing those articles out for me. I think I'm beginning to understand how malt works. Thinking of using a combination of Crystal 120L and Chocolate malt... I'll post up my recipe once I've formulated it.

    Braggot Advice

The malt suggestions definitely sound interesting... Let me ask you this: What do these things bring to the table in terms of flavor, fermentables, body, etc? If these are well known things, please forgive me, I'm a newbie :mug: Also, since I don't have a scale, I just looked up a conversion...

    Braggot Advice

Hello everyone! A couple weeks ago I put together my very first braggot. Keep in mind that I'm VERY new to brewing, so the recipe was simple: 1 Gallon: -1 Pound Amber Dried Malt Extract -1 Pound Wildflower Honey ~1/8 Cup Golding Hops -Water To 1.5 Gallons -Nutrient/Energizer...

    Wildflower Traditional

Nope, I like to have six gallons in primary, that way I never have to worry about topping up. Plus, it gives me some to taste along the way :mug:

    Wildflower Traditional

Finally! Yesterday was racking day, and I got a couple pictures of the progress. When I first opened the primary bucket, I was pleasantly rewarded by the sweet scent of honey. It went dry to 0.000, and I'm assuming that once it fully clears and degasses it will be a little lower. For such a...

    Wildflower Traditional

Quick update! I received my honey yesterday, so I went ahead and got everything started. Everything went together very smoothly, and this morning my must was bubbling along quite happily. Ambient temp is more like 65 degrees, but it's close enough. As far as oak goes, I'm thinking 1/2 cup...

    Wildflower Traditional

Thanks for the responses guys! For my SG calculation, I was using Fermcalc, which assumes honey at a specific gravity of 1.4142, but if it comes out a little higher at 13.5%, I'll be okay with that. So long as it's between 12-14% (with my target ferment temperature at around 62 degrees ambient)...

    Wildflower Traditional

Hello All! It's been a while since I've been on here, but I just placed an order for some honey from Dutch Gold today, and I just wanted to share my plans, recipe, pics and etc. I ordered 30 Lbs of wildflower honey from them, and I'm planning on using about half to make a dry traditional...

    Oak Aged Cider

Lol, I take it you aren't a big fan? I certainly don't mind that it won't taste the same, I had planned more to mimic the presentation and the convenience of bottle carbonating since I don't have a kegerator. It's definitely good to hear that I'm worried about nothing.

    Oak Aged Cider

Hello all! I've been making wine for quite a while now, and lately I've gotten interested in making cider to have something nice to drink while my wines age. I'm planning on doing a carbonated, oak aged cider bottled like champagne. I recently tried Angry Orchard's Strawman and loved it, so I...

Thanks for the advice. In that case I'm not quite so worried. I'll see what happens and hopefully I can get some great wine and some experience from this!

First 5 Gal Batch - Explosion!

Hello All! I'm brand new to this forum and also a novice home brewer. So first of all, thanks to everyone here sharing their knowledge and experience! This is a great forum. Now that I've said that, on to the problem. Saturday evening I put together my first 5 gallon bucket batch of my...
