buy a cheap bottle of like wine and add to your carboy. Or you could buy glass marbles clean sanitize and add them to the carboy to create displacement.

    1 gallon apfelwein recipe?

-1 on the brown sugar, unless you don't care if it isn't clear. I used 1.3 lbs in a 5 gallon batch and mine is still very hazy after 3 months. I do not think it will every clear. Brown sugar is good, but don't expect it to clear.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Well the Apfelwein was a big hit at my dad's birthday party. I brought a gallon jug, that was about 3 months old. I had backsweetend it with half a can of applejuice concentrate. I had people telling me I don't really like wine, but I like this. Needless to say the jug was empty in about 2...

http://www.finevinewines.com/Round3_flash_110308F/page1/wine_page_1F.html A wine saver will also help. It is a small pump that removes oxygen from your wine bottles, you can hook it up to a bung and airlock. Create negative preasure in the carboy and see if CO2 rises. Watch the video, you...

    Next cider recipe suggestions...

From my understanding of other people Wyeast 3068 imparts a nice fruity flavor. I have a cran-apple brewing right now with it. Won't know how good it actually works out for awhile though. Also try some Light DME to change the mouth feel, maybe 1 or 2 lb for 5 gal to start. DME is a fermentable...

hard lemonade kit (basically a flavored wine kit) questions

Real quick from my understanding of invert sugar, it is nothing more than 2/1 sugar water. Heat 1 cup water/ add 2 cups sugar and stir till dissolved. You now have invert sugar. ~enjoy....

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

Halfpint, Thanks for the info. I did a google search and found some leave it in and some strain it. So at this point I am not to worried about it! I read the same thing as you said, it will sink to the bottom. How long do you leave your Graff in the primary and secondary? Also what do you use...

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

Well yep, I guess we all experience the learning curve. Hopefully it won't be to bad, as I used less than .5 oz and only 3 % AA. Thanks for the clarification!!!

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

Well I forgot to buy the bags. I used a wire mesh strainer but some stuff was still in the wort. Having never brewed beer, I did not strain the hops, is that a problem? I did a little googling and some say leave it, it will impart flavor and sink to the bottom, others said strain it out...

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

This might be a really dumb question, but I have only made wine and never did a wort. After boiling all the hops for 30 mins do I need to strain it?

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

I had a big round strainer with screen type material. I just barely lifted the grains above the water, took the pot with 170 degree water and poured it over the grains and let the water run out. Only needed to hands!

How many gallons of Brandon O's Graff have been made?

    829 + 5 = 834 pitched it last night.

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

Nocturnus, Keeping in mind this was my first try at this, but from what I read and understood. I steeped the grains for 30 mins, then lifted the grains above the pot and poured the sparge water over the grains so the water fell into the steep pot, then discarded the grains. I then stirred...

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

Well I guess I will see how things go when I get home from work. I still have some space in there, but wow is this thing going to town. I am thinking maybe I should have used a 6 gal or my primary bucket... oh well lessons learned! EDIT: Starting SG 1.062, for any who may be interested. I...

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

Have any of you just done this in a carboy? I made a batch up last night and have it in a 5 Gal carboy. This morning I have about a 1" krausen, I rigged a blow off tube, but all I have is a half inch tube. I would say I have about 4 inches until it hits the top of the bottle. Should I move this...

Apfelwein mistake - Bottle or not?

Well I would say, if it doesn't smell bad, give it a small taste test and go from there.

Homemade Wine Series as a Wedding Gift

I am not sure of their taste, but you could look into getting a nice Ice wine style kit. They usually make 3 gals. It is a sweeter desert wine, which might be good for after their anniversary dinner. So far it is the only wine my wife likes.
