So I tried to drink a Coors light today.

You guys can't trick me. Coors Light is ****. As is Bud Light and Miller Light. Just because you can drink it when it's so hot that anything light and cold is refreshing doesn't make it any less ****ty. Try a cold glass of ice water. That's refreshing and won't get you drunk after 6 of them either.

    1 week into ferment......not hoppy

When I do an extract IIPA, I've been working on refining a 20-minute boil hop bursting style. I've generally loved the results. This recipe has tons of hop flavor and aroma with a smooth bitterness. Really fantastic. I often do not dry hop because the aroma is so strong from the hop stand...

    Legal?

What I would like to know is how many of these scenarios that so many of these posts have hypothetically described have actually been prosecuted? What type of precedent is there for prosecuting homebrewers in scenarios like those described throughout this thread? Does anyone who has posted to...

    I'm a big boy now!!!

BIAB efficiency is all about the crush. Get a Corona mill for $20 and crush the crap out of it. Your bag can handle the finest crush that a Corona can produce. There are many Corona mill modifications that you can make - the most common ones being (1) adding the the ability to grind using a...

    Pliny

Just dropped by a favorite local Northern California liquor store who happened to have a few of these. Check out the bottled on date.

    Pliny

Just dropped by a favorite local Northern California liquor store who happened to have a few of these. Check out the bottled on date. The great thing about great IPA's is there is no guilt involved in drinking them right away. So I will.

    Beer fridge happy

Showed my 4-year old kid this pic and asked him, "Son, which one of these beers is not like the others?" "You mean that sh*t in the box at the top?" He said. "Good boy," I told him.

Chocolate Milk Stout - NB Kit

I made this as is 6 months ago and it was great. Wouldn't change a thing. Served it on nitro. Very good.

    Pliny The Younger Coming Soon

Next year, I recommend heading to the Double IPA Fest at The Bistro in Hayward. This year they had Younger available for much of the afternoon, as well as many other double and triple IPAs that certainly rival the great one. What a day it was, although I don't remember how it ended.

    Is my beer shot. Infection?

Yooper, on the topic of amount of time to age certain styles of beer, I just read a post of yours where you said you are drinking your IPA's 2 weeks after brewing them. Would this be the same with a double IPA? With, say, a 1.080 OG? Does a high ABV necessitate aging it a bit longer despite the...

    NorthernBrewer Bourbon Barrel Porter

I just kegged my porter, set up on a nitro tap. Just tried it and it doesn't seem quite ready (too boozy). Planning on taking it off the tap and aging it some more. Obviously, at this point I would keep at its current fridge temp. Just wondering about aging it cold. Any disadvantages to this...

Homebrewing has ruined me of commercial IPAs

Yooper, when you dry hop in your keg, do you leave your hop bags in once you begin serving, or do you pull them once you chill the beer?

Looking to convert the old college fridge.

You can find kegs and co2 tanks on eBay. Going rate for used ball lock corny kegs is $50-$60. A bit cheaper for pin lock kegs.

How are LME and DME different?

Any way to tell that your LME is old (or, I guess, no longer fresh)? Got mine out of the large barrels that they use at my LHBS. I assume that refrigerating it will keep it fresh longer?

    NB black ipa

I've brewed this a couple of times and it's delicious as is. To me, a black IPA can be ruined if it's over-hopped. Just sayin'...

You know you're a home brewer when?

You stop having people over because you don't want to waste your beer on THEM.

You know you're a home brewer when?

You start planning what beer you're going to brew for your 7-year old's birthday party in April.

You know you're a home brewer when?

You get the last corny keg you "need" and the next day you're back on Craigslist because you decide that you actually "need" one more.

    Carbonating for a Nitro Tap

I'm getting ready to put my first beer on nitro but had a question about carbonating prior to serving. I am planing on carbing my 5 gallons of Chocolate Milk Stout in a corny with co2 before hooking it up to beergas for serving. What volume should it be carbed to? If I decide to naturally carb...
