What's the hardest part of homebrewing?

I like everything else, but bottling is a bit tedious. I need to find a better method. I don't mind waiting. I don't get into the waiting thing. I've got 3 batches I'm drinking at the time and two aging - so the waiting game isn't that hard.

    What's your dirty secret?

O.K., O.K. - I'll admit it. When I go to the local "hole in the wall" bar with the workmates, all they sell is the cheapest of the cheap beer. I guy can't get anything beyond bud, busch, and miller. Talk about a headache the next morning. Just don't drink Micholob Ultra! Horse Piss!

    Any Hangover M.D.'

Are you crazy! If I thought about doing that when I woke up, I wouldn't drink the night before. All you people in the medical field are nuts! My brother is a doctor and he's a nut. I'll disregard this post.... LOL :D

    Cooking Pot?

I use stainless, but my buddy uses aluminum. We both make great beer. He likes his light beers, while I like the full bodied ones. Cabelas has some decent turkey fryers (30 quart) with stainless pots. I picked mine up for a hundred. That includes burner and all the fixins for frying...

    Want to fix my beer.

I don't know about everyone else, but any homebrew I've tasted is very much fuller bodied - so much so it can seem a touch sweet compared to the commercial beers we have become accustomed to. Last night I brought a couple of bottles of Porter over to my Aunt and Uncle's. They loved it! When...

    Strawberry Wine?

    Thanks! Anymore out there?

    Any Hangover M.D.'s ?

I've got hangover head :( We must have a good hangover cure out there. The worst ones I get are with store-bought brew. I never get cheap stuff anymore. Last night I picked up some "WARSTEINER DUNKEL" - this is the best store-bought stuff I've had. Drank 4 - 12oz. Huge headache the next...

Oh my god, I hate the auto-siphon, any other suggestions??

No, I haven't done this myself. It sounds like an easy method, but you've heard of Murphy's Law... Actually, as a NOOB I just did the old fashoned suck method for my first 5 batches until I discovered the autosiphon. I'll hold on to that one. Well I have a mash that's about ready to...

    Strawberry Wine?

I'm a beer maker and conosuer. My wife is not, unfortunately. We have 75 lbs. of strawberries we picked this last spring that are begging for a more noble use than just jam. I've never made any wine before and would like to know if anyone has any good recipes for a nice sweet strawberry...

Oh my god, I hate the auto-siphon, any other suggestions??

Me and my brew-buddy came up with this one. All you need is a short section of hose that fits either inside or outside the hose that attaches to your racking cane. Then just use the old fashion suck method! Just be sure to remove the small hose and your mouth before the beer makes contact...

Homebrewing on Food TV today (9/20/05)!

Alton Brown did it! It's his fault for turning us into a bunch of pot-bellied, beer-making/drinking...drunks! Thank you Alton. :p

    Dry/liquid extract?

I just did a little experiement. The first batch of a recipe called "Yellow Dog" (a nice hoppy pale ale) I used DME. The second LME. The only difference was in the color. The flavor was exactly the same, but the LME turned out a shade darker.

    How homebrewing ruined my life

Every other Thursday is "Pub Night" with the work mates. Now that I've started homebrewing I don't really like the beer I get there. No flavor, body, and very dissapointing on the alcohol content. We need a calorie guide for our beer.... NOT!!!!! That is the last thing we need.

Help me identify (and stop) this taste in my beer, please!

Hey buddy, I feel your frustration. About a month ago, I went to the local brewery and got the sampler. They had some that had that stinkin' fruity tang. Blak! Spit! Cough. I've experienced this with my homebrews - when I didn't pay attention to the temp, and it became a warm brew. I...

    What influences taste the most?

Dude, this is like...hard man! Hops make the beer. Malt makes the beer. Yeast make the beer. Everything has a huge affect. Whooaa...this is deep stuff bud. Hold on just a second - I'm going to go get another brew. I believe a stout will do in this intellectual moment. I'll be back...

    clone brews

I've had the Dos Equis out of the "Clone Brews" and it turned out great. In fact, it tasted very much like the comercial beer - but a good deal better.

    Questions and opinions on sanitation

The real trick is finding the easiest, fastest method of sanitizing. That just takes time and experience. I get a little better every time. I'm into StarSan these days. It's cheap, reusable, and fast. One drawback - it eats the crap out of your hands. But if it is going to be boiled...
