    Are there more/less efficient grits/rice?

Instant rice and grits are typically added to boiling water prior to consumption as food...my guess is that they are not pregelatinized enough for full utilization during a typical mash. When prepared by the directions for eating, instant grits and rice still have a little toughness or...

Help me take my BIAB system up to the next level

Unless you have a dedicated brewing spot, a “next level” system will also be more gear to set up, tear down clean and store. It is personal preference of course, but simple has its merits imo.

Help me take my BIAB system up to the next level

You may be able to place a pulley hook that will be out of sight when not brewing. Perhaps place a pulley attachment point inside the cabinet above the stove, or perhaps just above the cabinet in the wall, run a cord over the top front edge of the cabinet. With A pulley you could sparge...

    Unitank capacity

Their site does spec it at 15.5 gal operating volume...but doesn’t list an actual volume. Oddly, the 1bbl tank states 42 gal actual, 31.5 working volume.

    Double batch efficiency

Try a Texas two step. Brew batch 1 Saturday, add to fermenter and pitch yeast. Brew batch 2 on Sunday and add on top of batch 1.

Great Deal on a 48 quart cooler and step by step conversion

Agreed...these coolers work well for simple batch sparging. My only caution is to be sure to get a real stainless braid. Lots of braids sold by HD etc are actually a polymer plastic that look like stainless but are not. I posted a slightly different simpler, but very effective conversion...

    Fly sparging

My experience is that is not so complicated, you can simply pour your sparge water slowly at a trickle into \ over your bag of grain hanging over your kettle. Think simple you can use a pitcher or a coffee mug to pour a few ounces at a time. Works well even though intuitively one would...

    Any Recommendations For Mill Cart?

I suggest looking in Craigslist for a small kitchen cart, or a tool chest cabinet....lots of options inexpensively. I found a craftsmen tool chest base at the curb on casters and repurposed it.... n/c The $100 stainless cart sounds nice if you prefer stainless over paint or wood vs free or...

Max amount of grain in my eBIAB pot?

In my experience, the thickest mash one can handle is about 1qt / lb. With 5 gallons of usable mash volume this will be 15 lbs With 6 gallons usable mash space this is 18 lbs. Of course a sparge will be required. What gravity and efficiency you can pul is somewhat unique to you and your...

Max amount of grain in my eBIAB pot?

Your kind of asking for someone to guess your best efficiency max grain bill in your 6 gallon pot? This is not an easy or answerable question because a lot of the variable are unique to you. When trying to get higher gravities, especially with a smaller kettle, you need not be all concerned w...

    86 rpm and 35 in-lb for 3 Mill Roller?

I concur with the above, 35 inch lbs is only 3 ft lbs...it might have enough to turn the mill. but I’d be afraid at a small gap it might stall... Did the mill come with a hand crank? Try hand milling and see how hard it is to crank...guesstimating ft lbs...

My first BIAB (or of any kind) brewing session...

Grain in first photo looks uncrushed, or not crushed well at all! Guessing this is the caramel malt.... Looks like a lot of crystal malt to me...who knew Surprised you got a 1.070 gravity with that crush? Your gravity sample was chilled to ambient?

How close can I solder a fitting next to another?

Just my opinion, I think you are over concerned... You can typically reheat and reflow a solder joint without damaging the previous work. You could easily reflow the previous fitting while adding the new one. A wet paper towel should easily avoid you’re first joint from re flowing. There...

Where did you get your bag?

Results are mixed, some have success, others not so much. If you have wort flow at the element your mash will likely not scorch. I believe Scorching occurs when the mash is stagnant and packed around the element. The wort locally boils away adjacent to the element and temps sky rocket and...

$99 PET Conical up to 35 PSI

This is interesting! The description states you can also carbonate and serve from this vessel... It’s a fermenter, it’s a keg, or both :)

Where did you get your bag?

Both bags are polyester... Polyester melting point 482f Nylon melting point 515f If your bag is seeing these temps and melting, as said above you are doing it wrong... Nylon slightly more heat resistant, but I feel polyester is a better choice.

First 5 gallon all-grain brew: some issues

Two mashes seems like a hassle, one mash in your 4 gallon pot and sparge to gain volume needed.
