    Hops pushed out of boil

Do you find hop bags cut the ibus? I used hop bags when I was extract brewing because of the clean up, but I figured that with all grain other stuff drops out when it's cooling so why bother containing the hops.

    Hops pushed out of boil

I'm all grain brewing, and when I throw the hops in at the start of the boil they cause more, I guess you'd call it head, foam to form and then a lot of hop sludge appears and gets stuck to the pot then the foaming recedes and leaves all that hoppy goodness there, do I have to scrap it back in...

    How to repitch before bottling

ok, cool, thanks guys. I've got another high gravity beer to bottle soon so I'm going to add more yeast to that. I have a pipette and will use that to drop some yeast into each bottle. Cheers.

    How to repitch before bottling

I add priming drops straight to the bottles before capping.

    How to repitch before bottling

I'm not looking to discuss why I need should/shouldn't repitch before bottling as 1)that's been discussed a lot already and 2)I have had one beer fail to carb after 4 months and I don't want to waste my time with that again. What I do want to know is when do I add the yeast? I bottle...

    A confused Multi Malt Mash?

It's not too constrained but definitely fill up space with beer is the priority at the moment and my LHBS is very close and has heaps of selection so I'm spoilt for choice. Once I do a few all grains I might decide on a base malt and work out how/where to store it. The LHBS prices are either per...

    A confused Multi Malt Mash?

Grain mill is on the list. I just have a space problem at the moment so buying 25KG bags of grain isn't going to keep the wife happy.

    A confused Multi Malt Mash?

The reason for asking is if there's something in there that won't work or is guaranteed to ruin it before I even start. The excess Crystal is a good point and I'll change that before I brew it. Also if anyone has tried something similar then hearing of their experience would be beneficial.

    A confused Multi Malt Mash?

The reason I'd do a kilo of each including smoked and crystal is because I can only buy them in kilos and I get them crushed at the store so I don't want them sitting round. Unless I do 2 beers at the same time that use the same grains then I need to work out some way of storing them or just...

    A confused Multi Malt Mash?

I just gained the ability to do full 5 gallon all grain batches. I've done 1 gallon with 1-2 grains and 5 gallon partials but now I can do BIAB up to 5-6 Gallons Now my question, I'm a bit of a weirdo and so for my first brew I want to make a bizarre mix of heaps of different malts. I want to...

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

One thing this trial has probably proven is that the original Cock Ale recipe would require a very flavourful rooster or a very high meat to beer ratio.

Give it a try, and keep us informed

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

:-) Once my micro fermenter is free I'll work on another version.

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

Good point on the DME, I might do 2 micro trials with different processes and ingredients. Plus if i do micro trials I can handle doing all grain.

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

I thought about beef stock cubes but it just feels like cheating (not sure if there's salt in them too) I'll probably go for a better beer too, as I think the standard coopers ale isn't helping the flavour. And one thing I don't know yet is if the beef flavour develops after time in the...

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

Ok so here it is. It's not carbonated completely yet so I'll do a follow up when it is. Firstly, there is no obvious beef flavour/aroma. This is quite disappointing, so I'll definitely have to try and make another one. The appearance is a crystal clear amber gold. (no head at the moment) The...

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

The big added benefit of this method would be that the meat would be great to eat afterwards, just a bit malty. Where as the beef in bourbon beer process left me with a meat that was yeasty and the stew stinks!

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

Look at me, I haven't even drank the first one and I'm concocting more

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

haha, yeah. I had thought about Pork in Port Porter. I think it has to be a meat with a lot of flavour. Rabbit in barley wine stout. another name would be Hopped Hopper :P The only thing to remember is you need a moderate to high alcohol liquid to soak the meat in to kill off any bugs and make...
