    Partial Part boiling?

I brewed it last week before checking back here and I ended up doing it in 3 different batches, time really was the limiting factor to doing the 3 of the same batches as 3 90 minute boils on a weeknight would have had me up all night. I calculated each boil seperately with the batch size of 5...

    Partial Part boiling?

I use brewers friend but it I wasn't sure if I was using it correctly, after reading your post I went and had a play with batch and boil sizes and it seems I was using it wrong. If I do three recipes on brewers friend could I just add them together? with batch sizes of 5 gallons but boil...

    Partial Part boiling?

Oh well, I bought all the hops etc (and another fermenter) so I'm going to try it anyway

    Partial Part boiling?

Firstly I can currently only do approximately 2 Gallon mash/boils BIAB so for my previous brews that have required more grain than that setup handles I've just split the grain and done one after the other but I've always done the same hopping procedure or been using a prehopped malt extract so...

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

I bottled the beer over the weekend, it was stable at 4.6% abv. Taste is ok, like a simple brown ale with some lemon/citrus flavour coming through probably from the bourbon. still no apparent beef flavour so big fingers crossed for once it's carbonated. I got 19 x 750mL, 7 x 500mL and 12 x...

Specialty Smoked Beer 100% Peated Ale

Yup, crushed, my local has all the grains available and crushes on request. I'm also making a part extract part peated malt whisky this week that's why I used the whisky yeast.

Specialty Smoked Beer 100% Peated Ale

I kicked off a tiny 3Litre batch with 1 kilo of medium peated distilling malt with safspirit malt whisky yeast 2 days ago. I can only handle these tiny batches of all grain at the moment but let's me try cool things like this. I put the malt in a grain bag in 5 litres 65ish degree celcius for 90...

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

Bitter, malty ale. the bitterness was a bit sharp to get much else off it. hopefully some of the beef flavour comes through when it's bottled. If anyone is going to start this before I have a few weeks/month in the bottle then I would suggest more beef just to ensure more flavour, but you may...

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

I took out the beef over the weekend. I tested the beer and also made a stew with the beef. First off the beef STUNK!!! I think all the yeast settled on it. The beef stew I started making also smells pretty bad, heated yeast and plenty of beer does not a good stew make! However, after checking...

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

The stuff I used is 43% I believe (will double check when I get home) but I need the SG to be able to calculate the ABV of the beer as the bourbon would have messed with the OG. So 23L at 1.04(can't remember exactly what OG was but have it written down at home) + 0.5L at whatever the bourbon...

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

Oh, I have a favour to ask, if someone has some makers mark could you please tell me what the SG is? I want to work out what the alcohol % is

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

What do you mean by crash? Do you mean drop the temp? I don't have a brew fridge so can't do that. Once the meat comes out I can probably skim it with a sieve anyway.

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

PS When I bottle it I'll leave enough so that I don't get that fat into a bottle.

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

Not much of an update, it appears to have finished fermenting but I haven't check the SG. It bubbled nicely for about a week but now I'm just letting it sit. I'll probably pull the beef out in a week and then give it another week before bottling. I am going to make a stew with the beef and some...

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

Its bubbling away nicely, aroma is pretty normal.

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

In goes the Beef! First I boiled the bag and string to ensure it's sterile. Second I pulled the beef out of the bourbon put it in the bag and pulled it apart. then I tied the bag and tied it to a spoon so I can suspend the beef in the beer, and I put the beef into the beer and put the spoon...

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

If I could find it in NZ it would be far to expensive to put into a Cock Ale :D

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

It's all off and brewing, I filled it up to 23Litres.

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

I'm starting the beer off tonight, then I'll put the beef in after a couple of days. I just needed to bottle the been already in the fermenter which I did last night. will update tomorrow with pics but it's just going to be make the coopers kit as per instructions.

    Beef in Bourbon Beer?

Gonna have to read the heavy cream banana ale thread. I put the beef in bourbon into the fridge, I didn't want to risk it sitting out. but I gotta say it smells good but looks disgusting. well the beef aint gonna be in the bottle so that's not a problem. I'm considering cooking up a stew...
