All of my beers are bad.

Wow, thanks for all the responses. In response: I'm not overly hopping, perhaps even under hopping for the styles. I haven't tweaked my grain crush at all, this is something I'll definitely look at. I've been using the mill at the local homebrew store, which is an excellent store but I...

All of my beers are bad.

I feel like I've tried almost everything, but I can't seem to brew a beer that doesn't have a bitter, thin, harsh taste. Hoping someone can give me some more ideas. I brew with an Anvil Foundry system (with recirc) and ferment in Anvil stainless buckets. I've followed a few recipes here that...

    Oatmeal Stout Milk Oatmeal Stout

Been drinking this lately and it's turned out fantastic. It's been a little over two weeks and I think it'll peak in a couple more, so I'll be drinking this slow. Overall it's an excellent sweet stout that smells and looks absolutely perfect.

    Oatmeal Stout Milk Oatmeal Stout

Brewed this today but with 6 lb LME and 1.25 oz fuggle @ 60m, other than that it was exactly as posted. I wanted about 5.5% ABV and hit 1.064 OG. If everything goes to plan with fermentation, should be nearly exactly 5.5%! Thanks for the recipe, I'll post my results in a few weeks.

    Getting discouraged

Ugh, my first two beers were just terrible. It wasn't until my 3rd that I let anyone but my wife try it :)

    Beer From Only One Brewery?

Oskar Blues! That's if I'm taking into account the actually brewery itself as well. If it's just the beer, then Avery by far. But their tap room/brewery is just too crowded at all times.

Who makes the best beer in the world?

Colorado! So, I guess the USA?

    Alaskan Brewing coming to Texas

I always thought Alaskan was a Breckenridge Brewery type of brand (terrible). Just a wannabe Coors, really.

First brew not going as expected.

Yeah I've definitely learned my lesson. After a couple weeks in the bottles, it tastes good (not great). The second batch, still fermenting, already tastes absolutely incredible. I can't believe I made it...

First brew not going as expected.

I tasted the beer again today before bottling and the strange taste is now almost completely gone. Thanks for the advice to just wait it out! I also brewed my second batch, and this time I: - used a lot more extract - upped the hops quite a bit - bought and used beersmith, adjusted my recipe...

First brew not going as expected.

I really appreciate all the advice guys, great stuff. So for next time I will definitely use starsan, I will add more LME, possibly some more flavoring hops, and possibly a different yeast. I look at this first batch as a learning experience, I was just hoping I could drink my learning...

First brew not going as expected.

I'm hoping that's the case. Either way I think I'll bottle it and hope for the best. I did sanitize with bleach, could this be the culprit? I rinsed afterward with boiled water but easily could have missed some. EDIT: After reading up on flavor profiles of different brew-issues, I believe...

First brew not going as expected.

It's been fermenting at a pretty consistent 66 degrees Fahrenheit. So my specialty grains/extract ratio was probably pretty off?

First brew not going as expected.

I've been lurking, reading, digesting this forum for a while. This is my first post however, as I finally attempted my first beer. I decided to use extract but wanted to make up my own recipe as opposed to copying someone else's work (instead just using other's as a starting point). Anyways...
