    You could be correct. Ive had to pitch wyeast 3184 sweet mead two times on the same five gal. batch. One from the smack pack and the second from a starter but still the same activity.

    What's Brewing This Weekend? (July 4th wknd)

    BLG and I are doing a batch of her "lager not" tonite and on the fourth were going for Cheesefoods Caramel Cream Ale. Tomorrow the cherry wheat is going into bottles. Also tonite I'm haveing to repitch the yeast into the mead. Busy weekend... :o

    possible stuck fermentation...

    well i added some nutrients last evening....needless to say it may not be stuck completely but its SLOW!...so i added 2 tsp yeast nutrients, 2 tsp high alcohol yeast nutrient and took out a good portion and whipped it in the blender as i had read on some other sights to try and get some oyxgen...

    possible stuck fermentation...

    we added 4 tsp acid blend, 1 tbsp gypsum, 5 tsp yeast nutrient and .25 oz yeast nutrient to the must before racking to the fermentor... do you feel that i should add more at this point and aerate it more? or should i let it sit and see.. im getting about 3-4 blips per minute in the airlock...

    after doing some reading .. i see where some suggest just stirring the must some to get some oxygen going to give the yeast some activity... after just taking some of the mead out with the wine theif and stirring it just a tad with that im seeing about 1 blip every 18-19 seconds.. dont...

    5 gal cornie kegs are the way to go. My LBS says that if you want to bottle some and keg some all that would be needed to do would be rack half into the corney and then purge all the oxygen with CO2 before sealing the keg....then bottle the rest as usual.     Cutting the top out of a SS keg

    I've used a plasma cutter on LPG tanks at work and there is nothing like them. I have a keg that I'm going to cut out with it. What i'm going to do is to mark for the hole in the top and cut just up to the line. That way I can grind and then sand the hole for a good fit. Try this link...

    first mead in the fermentor

    thanks keln.. we also bought some blackberry mead and plan on trying that.. now a couple questions: 1 week into fermenting.. im seeing about 5-6 bubbles per minute.. is that about right or should i be worried about stuck/slow fermentation?
