    DIY Cost-Effective Immersion Wort Chiller

We have a 25' 3/8 copper chiller we got from the lhbs for $40. We noticed if we stir constantly we go from 212 to 85 in 9-11 minutes. That is with cold Michigan water but everybody should be able to get similar results.

    Oil/Film on Bottles

My brother and I brewed an Old Norse Ale with smoked malt, rye, oak chips, and juniper berries. We used Nottingham yeast. Primary x 2 weeks, secondary x 2 weeks, then we bottled it. After about 5 days in the bottle it has an oil/haze on top that crawls up the sides of the bottle. We tasted...

    Cold brewing coffee

A little late for a reply, but there is no rule of thumb here because everyone will brew the cold coffee at different concentration based on temperature, time, type of bean, coarseness of the grind, etc. You are going to test to see either way. It will either be a 6 oz test or a 5 gallon test.

Bananas Foster Creamy Ale (All Grain) **pic intensive**

Just an FYI, this one is taking a little longer to bottle carbonate. It's been 2 weeks and not quite there yet. Probably the higher ABV from the rum. Tasting good though, going to give it another week or two.

I can definitely use a lot of bottles. I am going out of town to see family 12/28-1/2, and my work schedule is rough... hopefully we can work something out?

Metanoia, I have some WLP 300 on a petri dish. How soon do you need it. P.S. I have been bogged down at school, but I plan to maintain this library for years to come.

    new guy frome fraser

To answer your question, you want to compare your final gravity(FG) reading to what your original gravity(OG) was. Let's say your OG was 1.058 then what is your reading now? If it was say 1.040 or 1.030 then your beer is not ready ... the yeast still have work to do. If your FG is 1.020 or 1.010...

Bananas Foster Creamy Ale (All Grain) **pic intensive**

Have it here in the primary, about to go into the secondary. That's ~10 lbs of banana in the trub. I'll upload a full post on how I made this if it turns out good.

What's The Best Winter Beer To Brew?

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. I have some stout, porter, and a brown ale already in the pipeline. I was wondering if there was a style I didn't know about or was forgetting about that is good in winter. Commercially, I have been enjoying New Belgium 1554 lately. It is like you described...

    Removing labels.. baking soda!

Don't use Xylene without gloves and ventilation and then wash thoroughly with a detergent and rinse.... better yet, don't use it. If you're looking for a solvent then you can use paint thinner, goof off extreme, denatured alcohol, or any other toxic solvent. My suggestion is if you are having a...
