    Good deal @ Beverage Factory?

I just pulled the trigger on the 4-pack of Hansen valve ball lock kegs from beveragefactory.com. I will report back here once I receive the kegs.

Freezing an immersion chiller in a bucket of water?

WARNING: SCIENCE CONTENT AHEAD... You are on the right track with your thinking about reversing the scenario, to where you would have a small volume of hot wort (at any given time) passing through a relatively much larger chilling volume. However, the concept of using an ice block to do this...

    Good deal @ Beverage Factory?

I'm wondering the same thing. My preliminary research indicates that the hansen valves might be a one-and-done overpressure protection kind of thing, rather than the pull to vent style relief valves. Does anyone have any experience with this type of valve who can shed some light on this? It...

    best ball lock prices?

How did you get 4 shiny kegs for $138 delivered? I see that Sabco/kegs.com has the 4-pack of shiny ball lock kegs for $138, but that's not including shipping. They want $30 for shipping to CO, which makes the deal far less attractive.

Moving co2 outside of keezer - question about hose requirements

Options 1-3 are all valid, and come down to your personal preference. Option 4 will blow up in your face, literally. The unregulated cylinder pressure is just about an order of magnitude higher than the red 5/16" gas hose is rated for. I'm handling the same problem on my rig with option two...

    Condition in bucket before kegging?

Nobody said they're lying... I'm quite sure the plastic those buckets are made out of is #2 HDPE, just as they say. It's just that not all HDPE is food-grade. For the cheap home improvement store buckets, the dye they use (which might also mask what might otherwise be an inconsistent...

    Condition in bucket before kegging?

Interesting reading here on the subject of food grade plastics. A quote from that site: Like I said earlier, the extra few bucks for guaranteed food-grade buckets is worth it to me for peace of mind if nothing else. YMMV. :)

    floaties, poison, blindness oh my.

Pathogens (bacteria and viruses that make you sick) cannot live in beer. None of the byproducts of yeast reproduction/metabolism are harmful, either, unless of course you count ethanol... RDWHAHB!

    Condition in bucket before kegging?

Home Depot buckets, you say? I personally wouldn't let my precious beer anywhere near those things. Not all plastics are created equal. I spend a few more bucks on the certified food-grade buckets available from my LHBS or online retailers. For me, the peace of mind is worth it... Lord only...

    Kegging disaster?

It's all about equilibrium... If you carb up to 4.5 vols, but turn down the pressure to 5psi for serving, you will end up with a higher partial CO2 pressure inside the beer itself than in the headspace above the beer, so CO2 will come out of solution in order to reach equilibrium between the...

Brewer's yeast in cat treats - why?

Having spent a significant time in Golden, CO and after some private tours in/around the Coors facilities, I know that they sell off 'yeast condensate' to cat food factories. My understanding is that this yeast condensate is basically dehydrated yeast slurry, the result of processing it to...

    best ball lock prices?

I know the OP asked for the best price on refurbished ball locks, but I'm going to ignore that for now... I bought a 4-pack of UNrefurbished ball lock kegs from MoreBeer for $125 shipped. The kegs still had some soda inside, but were/are in quite good condition for used kegs -- much better...

    MORE Stupid Newbie Kegging Questions

I disagree. His method (30psi for ~1-1.5 days, followed by serving pressure indefinitely) should be quite consistent. Note that he does not shake the keg at 30psi, but rather lets it sit for 24-36 hours. All he's doing is using the higher pressure to bring the concentration of CO2 close to...

Hello my name is Mike and I like Beer :D

Good, it looks like you might already have some good patience! I've found that nowhere is patience more of a virtue than in brewing. It isn't uncommon for some jostling to knock CO2 out of suspension and cause some airlock bubbles. There's a good chance that this is what you saw when moving...

    Carboy Level/Calibration Sticker Prototype

Bobby, correct me if I'm wrong, but I imagine custom work would be easiest if you had a vector-based file (.DXF or similar), rather than an image (JPEG, BMP, etc). As for what he would charge, I can't speak to that. Sorry to have taken the conversation :off: EDIT: What he said ^

    Carboy Level/Calibration Sticker Prototype

Have you done any testing on the etched look vinyl? I'm curious to see how those look. Have you ever done custom vinyl work? My keezer project could use some custom 'etched' vinyl goodness... I'd rather work with you than a local sign shop, etc.

    Stainless Stackable presurizable fermenters

Quarter-barrel Sankes are 7.75 gallons, and will likely stack well with the barproducts.com keg stackers or spacers. Those spacers would even allow for an airlock...

    Stainless Stackable presurizable fermenters

What kind of fermentation chamber are we talking about? Chest freezer? Upright freezer? SOFC? Have you ruled out corny kegs? They're (usually) only 5 gals, so using them for primaries on 5-gal batches might get hairy... But, they're (relatively) cheap, and could likely stack pretty well...

Jester Keezer Build, with a twist

Thanks for all the info! What is your center-center spacing for your taps? My version is only going to have 5 kegs (smaller freezer), so I'm trying to figure out if I can get away with the cheap 19" drip tray from barproducts.com. Those beveragefactory ones sure are pricey! I'm thinking of...
