    2009 Hop garden picture thread.

I'll be damned if I didnt just walk out and the cascades are peeking through.. Now I'll have to walk out every hour to check on the NB's..

    2009 Hop garden picture thread.

Dont have anything to take pics of yet, hopefully soon.. Put a single cascade and a single Northern Brewer in the ground 5 days ago.. Gently uncovered them yesterday evening to check if I was waiting on sticks and there is new root growth and sprouts everywhere so I expect them to be busting out...

    CO2 Prices

I pay <$5 for a 5# tank out at a rural welding supply shop.. I take him 2 or 3 at a time..

    Terrible Hefe

All though I certainly will not rule out an infection I am riduculously anal about sanitation.. My fermenters sit in a water bath regulated by an aquarium chiller to maintain fermentation temps, I can imagine a 2-3 degF variance from the outer surface of the carboy to it's warmest inner zone...

    Controlling fermentation temps

I use an aquarium chiller (in TX our problem is keeping cool not worming up) in an extra bath tub (havent figured out why the wife allows it..) I can keep 6 carboys at any temp between 55 and 75 degrees without any issue. I have been experimenting with designing some flow through jackets for my...

Just ordered a carbonation stone. Carbonation in 20 minutes??? Any good?

Never used one but to me it sounds like an unnecessary piece of equipment.. It is simple tof orce carb a keg in 10 minutes or less without a diffusion stone.. I cool my keg and contents to ~36degF.. Pump 25psi into the "out" side to allow it to bubble through the beer.. Shake vigorously for...

Have you ever? Brewed a beer that you hated and everyone loved? And...

I used to brew a beer I called street trash.. I hated it.. I used it as a decoy for the damn neighbors that were constantly suckling on my taps.. Back then they were all commercial "light" beer lovers.. I screwed up and didnt brew any for a few months, the neighbors were "forced" to start having...

    Why I nearly stopped brewing..

So I have been at this off and on for the better part of 5 years.. I am relatively new to this forum, but not necessarily to the craft.. I thought it would be interesting to start a thread identifying the "walls" we all hit in our progression. I also thought it would be fun to clearly identify...
