Source/Idea for thermometer probe / fitting

Well we all know Brewer's Hardware is hands down the best place in the World to get stainless brewery fittings and parts.... (LOL!) If you're not looking for SS, the smaller hardware store chains like ACE, True Value and OSH usually have a small selection of brass tubing and rod as well as...

Need tips on bending SS tubing

With the PM's I got, I went ahead and put a quick page up for these. It's not in the site nav yet, only available through this link: http://www.brewershardware.com/PickupTubes.htm Sorry to have kinda hijacked your thread here Ed. :(

Need tips on bending SS tubing

Just the tube itself designed to be inserted into a compression fitting. I can also put a 45* flare on the fitting end should you be using a flare fitting. I added an image. This is what you get for $10 (plus $4.95 FR shipping for as many I can fit in an envelope):

Need tips on bending SS tubing

hehehe Thanks Ed. I wish I could get $100 but fair is fair. There is no welding involved, just a quick cut, flare, polish and bend. I'll post a pict of one I just finished for someone.

Need tips on bending SS tubing

Ed I'm impressed you got that HF bender to even do that. I never tried it with SS but all I ever got it to do was mangle soft copper. Just in case anyone else doesn't already have their tubing, I've done quite a few custom pickup tubes for people. Price is $10 each if the OAL is less than...

Need tips on bending SS tubing

I have a Rigid 408 bender and have not been able to bend .020 wall tubing with it without wrinkling. I pretty much only use .035 wall in my products and it works well but is tough to do even with that bender. The spring tools will not work and don't waste your money on the cheap benders...

Need help from Blichmann Boilermaker owners

They are weldless and very high quality. They are purpose-built, not off-the-shelf pipe fittings made to work.

    RIMs Question

In the total expense of this part it wouldn't make that big of a difference, it would sure be easier though. I'd thought of just threading the cap since it's .250" thick it would be plenty. However, The 1/2 coupler gets the element away from the cap and provides clearance for the clamp and...

    RIMs Question

Yeah, I didn't really mean to hijack this thread either, but it is all still talk to the OP's question. Sorry though. The prototype has NPT threads but my intention is to re-tap the coupler with straight threads as I get them rolling. There is a #8 stud for grounding the element cap as well.

    RIMs Question

Good comments! - Yes it is designed to be mounted vertically. I assumed the best way to clean it was to remove the caps anyway so I wasn't concerned about liquid being trapped. I also assumed you'd run your sparge water through it to make sure no wort was left behind. - I hadn't...

    RIMs Question

I'm about 90% done with the prototype but close enough for a few pictures. This is what it'll look like: The disassembled tube. My little camera bent the tube! The wort inlet is just sitting there and not welded in since the tube itself is only tacked up. Shows the outlow...

    Welding questions

I'm not speaking for Jay, but the way I read that was 'ask if they'll back-gas for an additional price per weld, say $3' not weld each coupler for $3....

    Keggle stainless fitting.

316 is more corrosion resistant than 304. They can be welded together and both are fine for brewing. 316 is often referred to as "marine grade" and is better suited for salt water environments. I mostly use 304 and your keg is probably 304/304L anyway. The only caveat is to use filler the...

    RIMs Question

I'm working on an all stainless RIMS tube that will be 2" diameter by about 14" tube length. That'll fit most off-the-shelf LWD elements I've seen. It'll have a SS float switch to be wired in series with your SSR to prevent it from heating a tube that's not flooded, a thermowell on the outlet...

    Sanke Fermenter Conversion

The size is based on the nominal size of the pipe these fittings would normally be used with. The actual diameter is about 2.5"

    RIMs Question

Don't use iron pipe at all, galvanized or not. Yes, it is safe for potable water, but that's because the pH is usually pretty close to neutral. The acidic wort and mash will quickly leach metal flavors into our beer. I don't think you;d have to worry about zinc poisoning because I don't...

My Stirstarter - What A Difference

Circuit boards. I really didn't know what to expect when I first ordered the boards, honestly I never thought I'd sell them all. This is the second order of them and they should be here in about 10 more days. Once they're here, I'm going to hire my brewing buddy's son who is taking...

    can't find CO2 leak

Here's what NOT to do... Quite a while back I had a leak I couldn't find and man I was getting very frustrated. So I finally reached a point where I stopped and thought, "wait, when I need to check a scuba reg I just immerse it!" So like a complete idiot and without actually thinking at...

    Sanke Fermenter Conversion

The large o-ring is a 138. A gasket will not work since there is no groove on the keg. I haven't changed the website yet, but the current model has a 1/2" blow-off port and tube now. 3/8" are still available by special order if anyone needs a 3/8".

    Good Deal On Thermowell

If you have a probe that can be placed directly in the mash that's always going to be better. Accuracy wise there won't be a difference, at least there has never been in the limited testing I've done. There is, however, a slight increase in lag time since you have more thermal mass between the...
