Help me calculate grain absorption, please.

Maybe I'm confused but, it seems to me that it would be the other way around. You would batch sparge to get a first runnings amount but, you would fly sparge to get the full runnings amount. Maybe I'm wrong about that but, anyway. I knew what the full runnings amount was so I calculated by...

Help me calculate grain absorption, please.

Thank you. I'm quite aware of mash tun loss. Or at least, that's what I call the amount left from the dead space under the false bottom. What I'm really trying to do though is, figure the exact grain absorption amount for this particular recipe. I realized that there are averages and rules of...

Help me calculate grain absorption, please.

You got me thinking here. The wort that I extracted after putting the full 15 gallons through it. That is the original strike water and sparge water. Was, 12.5 or 12.75 gallons. For easy math, I just now figured it at 12.5. That would leave 2.5 gallons in the mash tun. On 25 lb of grain, that...

Help me calculate grain absorption, please.

So, I figured that I could wait until my whole brewing process was done and the wort was in the buckets. I weighed the mash tun with the spent wet grain inside and it came to around 52 lb. I then, dumped the mash tun and weighed it again. It weighed around 13 lb. From 52 lb total, I subtracted...

Is what's in these jars enough to inoculate 10 gallons?

Thank you, brother. But, I already knew that. What I've been doing is trying to pitch a good enough amount to get it started quickly but, not have it blow over. I'm sure there's a happy medium somewhere but in 25 years, I've never found it!😁

Is what's in these jars enough to inoculate 10 gallons?

Oh, yeah! I wasn't top cropping until about a year ago and now that I've started I would never quit! It is way easier to do than rinsing and it is taking yeast from the most healthy yeast on top instead of the least healthy yeast on the bottom. Also, yes. It seems to produce some really Kick-Ass...

Is what's in these jars enough to inoculate 10 gallons?

Thank you, too. It is top cropped yeast from 10 gallons of about a 5.25% beer and it's been in the fridge for maybe 2 weeks.

Is what's in these jars enough to inoculate 10 gallons?

Okay. Thank you. I did leave both to warm on the counter so I will use both. I had already planned to if no one answered me. It's just that, I've been having airlocks blow off with a bunch of foam coming out so, I was thinking about splitting one between the two five gallon buckets. This is...

Getting close to pitching time. Anyone?

Is what's in these jars enough to inoculate 10 gallons?

I'm going to brew today and I was wondering if you guys think one of these jars would be enough or if I should pitch both of them. I'm doing a 10 gallon batch of about 7abv and these are pint jars. You can see the levels of yeast in them.

14.5 Gallon Cooler. Have you seen these?

Yes. Half inch bulkhead. No mucking around whatsoever. Fit right in very easy. I even used their seal on the inside.

Can you save equipment profiles in Brewgr?

I just use a brewgr because it's free and I'm used to it but, I have never found a way to save an equipment profile. Do you always have to reenter an equipment profile? It is a little bit of a pain in the ass. Can anyone recommend another free Brew software that you guys think is better or...

14.5 Gallon Cooler. Have you seen these?

I guess I should mention, I don't know how long the free shipping on it will last. Before when I was looking at them they were about 67 or 68 bucks after shipping. Go for it now while, it's still free shipping.

14.5 Gallon Cooler. Have you seen these?

My bulkhead is the 3-in long one. It didn't take all of that but you would need a longer one than the shortest that you could use on a Rubbermaid 10 gallon. I just had to adjust my nut back to give it some more length.

14.5 Gallon Cooler. Have you seen these?

My domed 12 inch fit good. I wouldn't try to go any wider .

14.5 Gallon Cooler. Have you seen these?

Well, guys. Here's my update. Buy it! It is awesome! There is no problems fitting any valves or false bottom in it. It is only as tall as my Rubbermaid 10 gallon. It's width is wider but, I think it's walls are about the same thickness. It's built well if you're comparing it to a Rubbermaid and...

Anybody have a plant or rhizomes?

I would like to grow some hops this year but, they seem harder than heck to get because I'm in Idaho so a lot of places won't ship them here because Idaho produces a lot of hops. I guess it's something to protect the hop businesses. Anyway, I was hoping somebody would have Cascade and Centennial...

I'd like to grow some hops this year.

Could any of you guys help me out with a plant or rhizomes or where to buy them cheap? I prefer Cascade and anything that goes in Northeast IPAs or a good bittering hop. My LHBS used to give them for free but, I never got any and now, it's out of business. I'd just like to try growing them.
