What book is on your nightstand? Readers!

Damn, Im a sailor and have owned/sailed many boats, but have had no desire to build one (at least not anything bigger than a dinghy). I get frustrated enough with just keeping up with maintenance on larger boats. It is however new dinghy time for me as my current de-flatable RIB is at the end...

What book is on your nightstand? Readers!

Speaking of historic routes: Blue Latitudes retraces Cook's explorations from a sociological impact point of view. Very well done and funny too. https://www.amazon.es/Blue-Latitudes-Boldly-Captain-Before/dp/0312422601

If you like Moby Dick then read The History of The Whaleship Essex. Believed to be the inspiration for Moby Dick. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essex_(whaleship)

    Bochet Mead (burnt mead)

Yes, EC118 is a beast and Ive never had an issue with it. We prefer dry meads and it can certainly do that. Dont think Ive ever had it ferm so slow though (lost many of my notes in a crash). Im away from home now for several months so cant check ph, but recipe is same as past batches. Ive done...

    Bochet Mead (burnt mead)

My current Brochet batch is fermenting VERY slow. I pitched a properly rehydrated packet of EC-1118 on 12/08/2019 at an SG of 1.099. Its just now at 1.059. Just pulled a sample today and even partially fermented it tastes great, no apparent off flavors and a light caramel finish. Surprisingly...

Boquete Brewery (Boquete, Panama) SMASH. One of my favorites of theirs. At "The Wandering Sloth" in Volcan, Panama.

This is how they operate everywhere. They pay off a few local politicians and do as they please. They make almost zero contribution to the local economy.

No the cruise ships are worse, they unleash thousands of clueless fat white pasty people who trash everything in sight...like walking on reefs and damaging them because they are cluesless. The cruise ship lines also put big demands on local infrastructure, squeeze local operators to minimal...

More tallships... There have been up to 4 tallships at once in the anchorage here in Bocas del Toro, Panama this week. Ive been too busy working on my boat to get out and get some good pics, but here are some zoomed photos shot from shore. The pictured ships are Sea Cloud II and Roald...

Why is it so hard to find good commercially produced mead?

Ive not had good luck w commercial meads either, but I have had a few from small breweries that were good and some awesome HB's.

I suspect these names evolved because of the surf that breaks near them...first entry was probably pretty intimidating! Bocas is unique in that it is the only place I know of in the Western Caribbean with consistent surfable breaks. Most other great surf spots are on the Pacific. As a result...

Yep, and there is a second channel near here called "Boca del Drago". [emoji236] These two channels are on either side of Isla Colon. The main town here (Bocas del Toro) and the eastern most channel share the same name. Both channels are entrances from sea into the Bocas archipeligo. Speaking...

(Not a good pic, just a cell phone snap, but I will try and get out for some better pics tomorrow) Tallships in Bocas del Toro, Panama. There are 3 tallships in Bocas now. If you zoom in and pan around you can see all three. There is a 4th boat to the far left of frame that looks sorta like a...

It does look a bit like Allens too. Its fun to take guests there who dont know about these bodacious reptiles. They step onto the beach and within moments are rushed by panhandling iguanas. [emoji44]

If you look closely in that pic you can find "Hodor"....a 66 meter power catamaran...to my knowledge its the largest power cat on the planet. https://themarinenews.com/new-66m-support-vessel-hodor-for-87m-feadship-lonian/ ...and its just the toy box for the mothership "Ionian". [emoji849]
