    Steam Heating Methodology

It could. You'll have to do some calculations. You definitely want a pressure relief valve to spew the steam upward or out of the way in case this happens. You may want to consult a boilermaker. He'd be happy to help you out, I'm sure.

To insulate or not to insulate, that is the question.

Sorry to open back up a somewhat old thread... ...but a hot water heater blanket is the way to go?

Aquarium heater to heat water bath?

You should have no problem with using an aquarium heater. I've never used one in a carboy...just a plastic fermenter when I had a legitimate reason to use a bucket ;) I got one at Wal-Mart, intended for aquariums. They sold one that was like a 5-15 gallon size and one that was for larger...

    Speaking of brewing outside...

I doubt that sunlight exposure to hops ever hurts them...after all, they DO grow in the sun. As for during the wort boil, the results are probably negligible, but I would definitely play it safely and do the boil with a lid on and/or in the shade. "It's better to be safe than sorry," and if...

    Homemade chillzilla

You may want to use a tubing bender spring to keep the pressure more consistent when you're bending it.

Sanke mash tun lid -- anyone ever tried this?

It should work. Be careful if you're heating a little with a lot of heat, as the top of the keg tends to become VERY hot, much hotter than the liquid itself. So it might melt the plastic if you have a huge burner and aren't careful...

    Sorry for the redundancy!!!

Nope. Just get a tube on the outside that goes below the level of the liquid in the keg, and by siphon action, the remaining wort will be sucked out.

    where to bottle condition?

Basement should be fine...isn't ground temperature around 68degF?

With a lot of patience and a Dremel tool.....

Heh. It takes about 5 minutes to get the top off with a hand grinder and two cut-off wheels. Then it takes about half an hour and a grinding wheel to grind that sucker down nicely...and another 5 minutes with a zirconiated flap disc to get it nice and shiny ;)
  15. P

    first cut is the hardest

Drill slowly. Be really careful when you're close to hitting the backside with the bit...you don't want to pop a big piece out!

    Dry Ice Carbonation

I'm wondering whether anyone has done carbonation with dry ice. I have carbonated other beverages with it before, and there might be some time when using dry ice might be beneficial... Priming should be cheaper, of course, but it's always nice to have an alternative if something weird happens...

    keg explosion

Yeah, I was expecting a juicy horror story, like, with at least one amputation...and I get this? Shoot.
