What are you brewing this week?

Pale ale. Terry Foster's Original Pale Ale recipe... All Maris Otter malt. I modified it a bit and threw some Williamette pellets in because I ran out of Goldings pellets for bittering. I threw it in a 12 gallon carboy, and the fermentation popped the stopper off. Lucky meI woke up early and...

Update: Listermann.com Made Good on their Error

Good to hear. A lot of these homebrewing stores really DO know how to do business.

Anyone ever have a coupling welded in to their kettle?

You could alternatively go to a welding supply store and ask the guys at the counter whom they'd recommend. They're supplying the welders and know the business and are welders themselves. Welding supply guys tend to be really nice people.

    False Bottom

I tried editing my post above...the thing didn't save... Anyway, this is the exact one that I have. I used it last night making a 10 gallon batch of original pale ale. If you need to resize the aperture on the bottom, take a dremel or air grinder and go to town. The dip tube that comes with it...

    False Bottom

If you can find one of these... I considered fabricating it, but it would have taken way too much time. I wouldn't spend more than the $34.00 on it, though! http://www.midwestsupplies.com/products/ProdByID.aspx?ProdID=4468

Hermetic containers to keep the bugs out

I'll probably try the bucket thing and purge with CO2. I don't have a working camera at the moment. The insects look more like beetles when they're really small, weevil-like, and roach-like when they're larger. I do know that they don't have an affinity towards roach bait.

Hermetic containers to keep the bugs out

If this topic has already been brought up, please give me the search terms because I can't find it anywhere. I have been having issues with bugs around here. It all started when I purchased a bag of Royal basmati rice at Sam's club. It's the stuff that comes in 15 or 20 pound burlap sacks. I...

    70 amp arc welder?

Borrow a friend's if possible. Check the duty cycle on what they're selling. It's probably really low. You can do angle iron at 70A, but it's not a whole heck of a lot of heat. You do know how to stick, right?

    Alternative keg pressure system

Partial corny keg, so lots of available volume... ....pressurize the balls out of it. Follow the ratings on the keg and don't overpressurize it. I *think* that one of my kegs can handle 80-100 pounds. Hope that your dispenser can handle it ;)

Did this happen to anybody else's autosiphon?

Yep. Happened to me after a few uses and only using iodophor. These autosiphons are built very poorly...

    Chocolate Toffee stout?

Raw chocolate may be the way to go, but I'd use real toffee if I were you.

    Pain in the %$(!

As long as you didn't get any infections, you'll be all right, man... Everyone has his own opinions or whatever on brews that don't turn out well, but with enough care, you can get something REALLY good out of what you made. A little gelatin, some good amalayse enzyme, and a lot of time...

    Wanted: Sweetwater Exodus Porter Clone

Hi all, I'm from Atlanta where we are quite proud of our big local microbrewery, Sweetwater. They don't distribute much outside of the southeast, but I thought that I'd go ahead and give the question a try. I'm looking for a clone recipe for this porter. It's deep and malty stuff--almost...

    welding a keg, advice

Call around. Ask them what classification of welding they would use on stainless. (Try to get TIG or GTAW out of them...not MIG, GMAW, stick, arc, etc.) Be sure to have the keg backpurged as well.

    Oven Bottle Sanitation

Unlikely. I don't have a degree in Material Science, but the glass is never heated to a high enough temperature to cause enough crystalline deformation, nor is it heated and cooled quickly enough to change the crystal structure to "weaken" it. Possibly if you did it enough over long enough time...
