    I need a Simple recepie

I ran into a similar problem too. I liked using recipe kits, but wanted to try something more. I looked and looked. My problem was that most recipes I found online called for various quantities, which without a food scale made it difficult to brew accurately. In the end, I went back to...

    Yeast question

Yes it was from a prior batch. I ended up using all of it including the stuff on the plate. Should be interesting to see how it turns out. Since I didn't have to buy yeast this Wit wasn't too expensive. Basically this was an experiment to see if I should be keeping and reusing my yeast. I've...

    Blichmann Natural Gas conversion kit

Well, I was right. After Midwest messed this up again I contacted Blichmann through their website on a Friday afternoon. By 9 am on the following monday morning I got an email stating the correct orifice was in the mail. I was right. I had received the wrong one. Thanks.

    Cleaner question

I clean it and then rinse it out and not let it soak. Sure it still smells like beer but is that a bad thing? On brew dayor brew night as in tonight? I spray it down with star San ad then our the wort right on top of it.

    Buying Kits Online

I guess I should wait and see how my kits turn out from Austin. I made a Belgian wit with ingredients purchased at my LHBS. Turned out pretty good. This is a good thread though. I like recipe kits because they give you the exact amount you need. I've done a few recipes that I found online but...

    Buying Kits Online

Never bought from Northern. Bought a few from Midwest. Bought my most recent, and will continue to buy from Austin. Midwest and Northern charge something like $13 to ship, where as Austin is half of that. They also give you the option of buying their recipes as extract, partial (mini), or all...

    Cleaner question

i use Oxiclean. I just put a scoop in and fill it about halfway up. I use a wash cloth and wipe down what I can. I have a bucket by the way. Don't use soap or anything with a scent b/c it'll leave a residue. Then on brew day I spray Star San on it, which sanitizes it, and then I pour my wort...

    Blichmann Natural Gas conversion kit

Here's my problem. I bought the floor burner by blichmann with natural gas conversion kit. The burner came with an orifice that looks like it is for propane. Can anyone confirm this: When you order the blichmann floor burner with natural gas conversion kit you should get a total of 2 orifices...

    Glass carboy vs. plastic bucket

My kit came with a plastic bucket and a bottling bucket. No interest in a carboy. Buckets are easier to carry and clean. As long I hear activity in the airlock I know I'm good. Since I now keg my beer I'm going to use the bottling bucket as another fermenter.

    All grain equipment

Hello brewers. I currently have done extract and partial mash brewing and am considering jumping to AG simply because there are more recipes available and it sounds like it is cheaper. DME in Chicago is $5 a lb and liquid is not much cheaper when you factor in shipping. Local LHBS sells canned...

    Bottling?

My understanding is you need a minimum of 2 weeks in the fermenter. Then a minimum of 2 weeks once they're bottled. The important thing to remember I'd to just keep it sealed. I left my first batch in the primary for 6 weeks simply because I had not accumulated enough bottles for bottling. I...

    Outside burner

Hi brewers, I am thinking about buying an outside burner to brew outside this summer. I am also thinking about moving to all grain in the future. I have NG outside so I am between the Hurricane and the Blichmann burners. Any good recommendations? Also, I have a Weber NG grill too. Does...

    Costco Kegerator

I saw the same thing at my Costco and briefly thought about it. Then when I touched it and saw how cheap the components were I kept walking. For a little less I money I made my own kegerator and used top quality components like Perlick taps and SS shanks.

    Intro

It was groupon that I can thank for becoming a home brewer. They had a special on Mr Beer and that got the snowball rolling. Ended up buying a new brewing kit from Midwest after research and taking a pass on Mr Beer. I now keg and love making my own beer. Cubs fan who is a brewer. Go figure.

    Sanitation Question

Hello there. I am new to home brewing and this forum. So here's my question. I made a yeast starter kit for a belgian wit I want to brew. As I was opening my whitelabs vial over my funnel and bottle, the thing exploded, sprayed my hand and then went down the funnel into the bottle...
