    Scorched RIMS tube

Rye for me burned horribly. My element was black and near impossible to clean. I tried wheat for the first time last weekend. It didn’t seem like anything burned. There was some slimy chunks stuck to the element, but they all wiped off easily with a paper towel. Is there any problem with the...

    Scorched RIMS tube

That will vary a lot. Here’s a screen shot of the infusion tool found in Beersmith. There’s a bunch of variables to consider.

    stainless steel mash tun

Got mine rigged up last night. 12 inch arm with a few bends to accommodate the manifold.

    Scorched RIMS tube

Just made a wheat beer over the weekend. I didn’t think I had any problems. It was 50% wheat 50% Pilsner. Mashed in at around 113 and ramped to 154 then 168. I never smelled any burning or noticed any problems at all. After reading this thread though it reminded me that I never took the cap...

SS Brewtech Unitank VS Spike Unitank

The reason that I say it won’t work is by what I consider temperature control. If it can’t control it across all ranges of temps that I frequently use, I say it doesn’t work. I cold crash every batch. Cold crash for me is 35 degrees. I can cold crash year round to 35 degrees and maintain it...

Poor man’s valve tree- 3v rims with in line chiller

Yeah, it’s something at the home brew scale that’s completely unnecessary. It’s cool though. It was nice not having to swap any hoses, and there wasn’t a single drop spilled. I guess it has more of a brewery feel to it. All in for less than 100 dollars for all the parts that I had to buy new...

Inline filter for Fermenter to Brite tank?

I can’t remember the size screen that mine uses. I’ve got a similar tube from brewers hardware. They sell additional and various size filters to go with theirs. My mistake to start was buying screens too small. Just from looking at yours, assuming the picture is accurate, it is for sure not...

    How to balance a beer

So how about using cocoa nibs. 2 lbs in 12 gallons. Should I just throw them in like dry hops? Also is 2 lbs too much?

    How to balance a beer

That’s what I was looking for. Sorry I had planned on adding lactose to the boil. In a 12 gallon batch, is 2 lbs lactose too much?

    How to balance a beer

I’m aiming to make an odd ball beer just to see if I can. I’m shooting for something in the 8-9% abv range. I’ll be adding lactose in at about 5-6%. I am looking for a sweeter beer, but not off the charts. I don’t know how much ibus to target for a beer like this. Probably in the range of...

    Tilt Hydrometer/Temp

You can monitor it on the phone screen that is beside the fermenter. It won’t go to the web.

Poor man’s valve tree- 3v rims with in line chiller

I’ve been seeing a few hard plumbed systems lately that have had me drooling. I never thought it really made sense other than the bling factor for homebrew. That’s a lot of stainless. I figured I would try to take a stab at a valve system using 3 way ball valves and regular old silicone...

    Megapot 1.2 - First Use

Boil some water in it to see if your boil off rate is any different. You should give it a heavy cleaning as they have surface oils from storage. If it doesn’t leak, don’t worry about changing washers.

    SS BrewTech Packing Materials

Pretty sure I’ve got that box, but you know it’s fairly large. Even empty it would probably cost quite a bit to ship.

    BIAB or Straight to Electric?

Electric and biab are not exclusive of each other. Electric is just the way you heat. Biab is a way to brew. You can do both, either, or neither. Not sure that answers your question.

    Tapcooler counter pressure bottle filler

The “white rubber” piece you reference goes down. The tubes fit inside each other. Start with the largest tube. From the bottom, insert the middle tube, bottom up with the white rubber piece on the bottom of the smaller tube. Next insert the smallest diameter tube, from the bottom...

    SSBrewtech electric controller

Don’t know how much piece meaning you want to do, but I think there was somebody wanting to get rid of their 1v system. New Jersey maybe? I’m bad with names.

    Need help with kegerator build

I don’t know if a push to connect picnic tap exists. It would be cool if it did. Otherwise you’ll have to stretch the Eva barrier tubing over the tap barb. It can be done, I just don’t know anybody who’s done it. Maybe someone else will chime in. You’ll need to heat the tubing at a minimum in...

    Need help with kegerator build

I’d encourage to start with EVA barrier tubing where you can. 4mm size is fine for all uses. You’ll need less line length with that. I think 7ish feet is a common number I hear. The only last advise I’ll give is with the picnic taps. They’re cheap. They feel cheap. They have issues with...
